Responsibilities
• Ensure and oversee the overall institutionalization of NRC’s Minimum Standards for Safe and Inclusive Programming at country and area level, in line with NRC's country and global Safe and Inclusive Programming Strategic Initiative.
• Train NRC’s programme and support staff on the NRC’s SIP-related policies and tools related to SIP and the application of the Minimum Standards.
• Provide technical advice and support to the area office field teams throughout the programme-cycle. This is to ensure adherence to the SIP standards (especially on the minimum standards) during planning, implementation and monitoring of NRC’s programming.
• Review and analyze project data to identify protection trends, reporting, referrals (as appropriate), and response. Prepare and present monthly situation updates to inform the Country and Area Management.
• Contribute to the implementation of NRC Kenya’s accountability framework.
• Review NRC’s data management systems to ensure that confidentiality and privacy of sensitive information is assured.
• Promote enhanced understanding of protection issues among all stakeholders and the observance of international protection and humanitarian law standards. Collaborate also closely with colleagues working on Monitoring and Evaluation, HR, Finance, Logistics, and Risk and Compliance, on common issues, ensuring SIP integration within their systems and processes.
• Support the implementation of the Country Office Action Plan on SIP (including facilitating self-assessment and Action Plan workshops).
• Accompany field staff on beneficiary visits at all stages of the project to apply protection principles, identify any additional protection risks and any unforeseen negative consequences.
• Promote protection risk assessments, do no harm, and effective referral systems in close collaboration with other protection actors at area level.
• Coordinate, follow up, and carry out regular training/awareness raising sessions for staff and communities on all modules of the Basic SIP Training Package with a view to cascade learning across their departments in the area.
• Support program staff at area level on how to identify critical protection cases and ensure appropriate response is provided.
• Lead on the technical development of NRC Kenya Community Engagement approach.
• Focal point for community engagement for the Integrated Refugee Information System (IRISE) pilot.
Qualifications
• 5 years of experience in a similar/related field.
• Experience from working as a protection staff in a humanitarian/recovery context.
• Extensive experience in training, coordination and knowledge transfer.
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
• Knowledge of the refugee context in Kenya.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken
