The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) is a public body established by the National Drought Management Authority Act, 2016. The Act gives the NDMA the mandate to exercise overall coordination over all matters relating to drought risk management and to establish mechanisms, either on its own or with stakeholders, that will end drought emergencies in Kenya.
The NDMA Act tasks the Authority to, among other functions, conduct research on drought management and generate, consolidate and disseminate drought management information Knowledge generation, and its management, is a key component in ending drought emergencies as it ensures decisions are made based on sound evidence. Thus, research contributes extensively to drought risk management and adaptation to climate change.
The Authority has received funding from the European Union under the "Ending Drought Emergencies: Drought Risk Management and Coordination - Support to Pillar 6 (EDE/DRMC-SP6)" grant contract. Under this funding, the NDMA invites applications from ongoing PhD students, for partial grants of an amount not exceeding Kenya Shillings One Million (Kshs 1,000,000) per applicant.

The deadline for submission of applications is 6th November 2019 at 2:00 pm. Applications will be opened immediately thereafter in the NDMA Boardroom on 17th Floor, Lonrho House, Standard Street, Nairobi in the presence of applicants and/or their representatives who choose to attend.
