Job Description
Shamiri Institute is seeking an energetic, diligent, and self-motivated team player to join our team as a Research Associate Intern to be based in our Nairobi office.
The Research team at Shamiri is tasked with the production of scientific research, primarily in the form of research articles, to test the efficacy of our interventions and contribute to the growing literature on mental health in Sub-Saharan Africa. We want to make sure our work is informed by a strong data backbone and pride ourselves on being a research-driven organization.
The Research Associate Intern will provide hands-on support for all the Institute’s research activities. They will be responsible for planning and participating in data collection and collation for the organization’s research projects. Furthermore, they will also support the preparation of study protocols, research and ethical review materials, research materials and collateral, and recruiting and following up with research participants. The Research Associate Intern will work closely with other teams to prepare resources, equipment and materials for research under the overall supervision of the Research Manager.

Roles And Responsibilities
Research Planning & Implementation

• Collect qualitative or quantitative data from research participants to include printing and collating paper questionnaires, and moderating focus group discussions
• Support in the development of research materials such as questionnaires, protocols, an literature reviews
• Enter and prepare data for cleaning to include scanning paper questionnaires and verifying responses
• Clean and Analyze data using Excel and R
• Contribute to reports of results
• Perform other related duties as required

Educational/Training Background & Skills
• Recent graduate (within one year) or student in relevant field (psychology, statistics, computer programming)
• Previous experience working on a research study
• Meticulous
• Computer programming/coding (R, KOBO, REDCAP)
• Scientific writing experience
• Advanced MS Office

Bachelor Degree
