JOB DETAILS:
A. BACKGROUND
Nairobits Trust is a registered not for profit organization founded in 1999 and registered in 2001 as a Trust under the Ministry of Lands. NairoBits vision is to empower youth from disadvantaged backgrounds using Information Communication and Technology (ICT) through a combination of training, mentoring, job placements and other business development services. The primary target group for NairoBits is disadvantaged out of school youth residing within the informal urban settlements, aged between 17 and 24 years. Our approach revolves around unlocking the potential of the targeted youth to improve their socio-economic wellbeing by building and enhancing relevant inter-personal and professional skills through entrepreneurship, life-skills and sexual reproductive health rights (SRHR), to increase their chances in the job market.

B. SCOPE
Specifically, NairoBits in partnership with Edukans through the Strengthened Youth Employment project aims to support youth from the urban informal settlements with ICT skills, and harness their individual potentials by creating employment opportunities for both women and youth.
The main objective of the research is to expand the knowledge base on ICT labor markets and adjust NairoBits training curricula through the provision of evidence-based training materials for the promotion of the decent work agenda in Kenya.
Specifically, the call is to support the curricula adjustments that shall be presented from the research on how changes in labor market will correspond with skill sets of NairoBits beneficiaries.

C. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANCY
The market study aims to:
• Conduct a market study that will provide crucial up-to-date, relevant and reliable market intelligence for ICT.
• Conduct in-depth market research that will help the organization understand the labor market, employer insights for skill set required in work environments
• Identify and analyze possible entry points for youth integration to labor market
• Conduct a competitive market analysis form skill sets in field of multi-disciplinary design and development

D. METHODOLOGY AND PROCESS
The Consultant/service provider is expected to apply an appropriate and relevant methodology both qualitative and quantitative methods that will help gather solid and reliable market intelligence. The tools and methodology will be developed in consultation with NairoBits and the consultant will be expected to justify the choice of methodology in the final report. The Consultant is expected to take all appropriate measures to ensure that the security and confidentiality of the respondents participating in the market study is protected while conducting the market study. During the findings the consultant will meet with NairoBits relevant staff as well as other important stakeholders.

Specific tasks of the consultant include:
• Develop an inception report and budget for approval by NairoBits.
• Conduct desk review of relevant secondary data including current trends in the ICT field (Development and Design).
• Develop market survey tools with participation of key staff prior to the data collection.
• Determine appropriate sample size from which the survey data will be gathered and design data collection schedule.
• Propose a research team if necessary, conduct field preparation/ training for the research team and conduct piloting.
• Supervise field primary data collection including implementing data quality control mechanisms.
• Conduct data management and analysis.
• Write the draft market survey report of findings with necessary recommendations to be presented to NairoBits for validation.
• Prepare a final market survey report after review, comment and edits of initial draft.
• Prepare a summary of the market survey report

Target group:
The target group for this research is NairoBits’ beneficiaries of 2020/2021

The research requires to segment the target group into:
• Male/ Female
• No of dependents
• Area of specialization
Geography of the study:
The research will be conducted in Nairobi.

E. DELIVERABLES
A formal presentation of the research findings will be required supported by a final written document.
NairoBits expects outcomes to be captured in the following formats:
• Inception report
• Meeting to share tools, methodology, draft and final report. The draft report on soft submitted for review.
• Plan and methodology of the assignment to be executed
• Include visuals in the reports e.g. pictorial representation of the data by using graphs, charts, maps and other methods.
• A market research report in MSWord that includes quantitative research and all the key elements of a formal report
• A marketing and distribution strategy/concept for market demand for UI/UX in Nairobi, Kenya

F. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• A firm or individual with experience on conducting research findings.
• Three plus years’ experience in market study and experience in ICT sector
• Experience in new product market penetration strategy development and consumer’s insight survey
• Knowledge and experience of Kenyan base of ICT employment analysis
• Excellent research and analytical skills.
• Excellent writing, presentation and reporting skills.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver quality work against tight deadlines and targets.

G. REPORTING AND PRESENTATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Following this brief, a research proposal will be required. We would be pleased to discuss this written brief by email to clarify any issue. When the project is underway, we would like to be involved in the research process and agree in advance on all materials and contents developed for executing the research. We would like regular progress reports explained in call meetings on zoom when relevant.

Timeline and Schedule of Events:
The assignment is expected to take a maximum of 4 weeks. We would like to start the research mid-November 2021, and have it completed and reported by beginning December 2021. During the research we would like to agree significant checkpoints where the status of the research can be discussed, and progress monitored.
