Job title: Project and Policy Research Officer
FEMNET, in Partnership and Collaboration with The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), The University of Edinburgh, The Institute For Humanities In Africa, LASPAD at the University Gaston Berger (UGB – Senegal), and The Institute For Humanities In Africa at University Of Cape Town are working together to implement a 15 months project dubbed “Feminist Alternatives for (post-) COVID-19 Engagements (FACE) in Africa: Contributions from Social Sciences and the humanities (G03804)” led by Dr Rama Salla Dieng, University of Edinburgh. To contribute to the successful implementation of this project, FEMNET seeks to engage a Project and Policy Research Officer for the duration of one year.
Functionally Reports to: Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator and UoE FACE Project Investigator (UoE) and co-Investigators (UGB and UCT)

Terms of reference
General Duties include:
The Project and Policy Research Officer will be required to work with FACE project team in collaborative manner and lead implementation of FEMNET activities which aims to realize the following objectives.
• To make available, critical feminist intersectional research of the pandemic for a more accurate gender-responsive intervention in the first five months of the project
• To Influence public policy and COVID-19 interventions, from a feminist perspective.
• To create more dynamic public engagement, writing, organizing and dissemination skill strengthening for gender-responsive feminist alternatives.

Main duties
• Coordinate with a team of consultants towards the delivery of 4 working papers to be published in FEMNET’s 2022 African Women’s Journal (AWJ) on the 4 themes and subthemes of the project in both English and French.
• Work with the lead researchers to synthesis and repackage the 4 working papers published in the AWJ for broader dissemination among policy makers, feminist and women’s right activists, young-led organizations, African Union organs, media and other actors.
• Conduct original research to produce 3 Working papers on the following themes 1) Building Forward Better; 2) Inclusive Public policies in Africa and 3) Feminists Organising post-COVID 19 in Africa. The Project and Policy Research Officer will be expected to work closely with IDEP and UGB, the FACE Project and Research Officer to organise the end of project Symposium hosted by UGB in2022.
• Represent FEMNET in presenting some of the research findings at the end of project symposium and contribute to their dissemination.
• Provide empirical evidence on the project’s theme as part of documentary research for the short video documentaries.
• Coordinate overall learning and knowledge management for FEMNET’s programmes.
Research, Documentation and learning
• Work proactively with FEMNET and FACE project team to identify opportunities for capturing and sharing knowledge and disseminating information about major progress and results of key research areas.
• With a feminist lens, produce analytical papers in order to effectively share knowledge with FEMNET members and partners.
• Support documentation of best practices throughout the project period through relevant mediums.
• Lead in the coordination and use of best practices and lessons learnt to influence FEMNET’s policy work.
Project Management, Logistical support and Research Administration
• Manage the research administration and project management of the FACE project
• Coordinate the overall communications and liaison between the different FACE team members (UCT, UGB, UoE and FEMNET)
• Coordinate all the logistical arrangements for the 2022 FACE project conference in Senegal and attend the conference.
Knowledge Management and Innovation
• Work closely with FEMNET’s Communications team on the development and packaging of advocacy messages for different audience.
• Convene and facilitate knowledge and information sharing events with FEMNET staff, members and partners to continually assess and discuss implementation of regional and global policy frameworks.
• Engage with policy-oriented research networks such as EM2030, that provide relevant data, gendered analysis, which will help FEMNET to continue advance gender equality and women’s human rights in research and learning agendas.
• Lead in the dissemination of key research products through platforms such as FEMNET’s website, Social media accounts and members list-serves.
Monitoring and Reporting
• Ensure that inclusion and diversity issues such as participation, gender, age, sexual orientation and disability among others are effectively addressed/ mainstreamed in project implementations and reporting as part of ensuring accountability according to FEMNET values and in line with feminist values and principles.
• Document FEMNET’s contribution and overall experience of programme work.
• Lead in project reporting in documenting and harvesting results and changes achieved as a result of the project.
Minimum Academic Qualifications and Requirements
• Be a Bachelor and/or a Master’s degree holder in social sciences, Law, Gender and Development, or other relevant disciplines from a recognized university,
• At least 3 years’ experience in research work and generating feminist analytical evidence pieces on gender related fields.
• At least 3 years relevant work experience at international, regional or sub- regional level (Africa)
• Proven experience working in consortiums, multi-cultural environment, exposure to, and capability for collaborative work, nurturing of networks and alliances and motivate people.
• Sound knowledge on gender and its mainstreaming strategies, leadership development and generally women’s rights issues in Africa
• Identify with FEMNETs Feminist values and principles.
• Persons with additional relevant trainings in monitoring and evaluation will have added advantage.
• Persons with French language proficiency will have an added advantage.
Remuneration will be in line with the set procedures of the organizations which consider the experience and qualifications of the candidate.
