5 month fixed-term Nairobi based Project Manager
4R Digital finds new opportunities and turns fledgling ideas into viable, scalable, successful businesses that reach new segments of customers, drive new revenue sources and create positive change. In Q1 of 2022, 4R Digital is piloting the launch of a new digital finance tool created to increase access to credit, drive business performance and expand digital connectivity along the FMCG value chain. Summary
This role is for a talented and experienced Project Manager, based in Nairobi, to manage a small team and help deliver the Duka+ launch and pilot project on time and to budget. The successful candidate will work closely with the 4R Digital team based in the United Kingdom to deliver this project. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of the micro-retail value chain in Kenya. Crucially, the Project Manager will oversee all logistics to do with the Duka+ pilot including: overseeing local staff and consultants working on project delivery, liaising with clients and partners as well as fostering new relationships to support project expansion, supporting in designing pilot participant onboarding, recruitment and support processes, daily monitoring of product uptake, overseeing the delivery of goods to pilot participants and coordination of 1st level support / troubleshooting.
The successful candidate will contribute to the longer term strategy and growth plan by bringing their experience and know-how to the team, positioning for continued expansion of the work beyond this next 5 month phase.

Responsibilities
• Build positive working relationships with our clients with the aim of improving program processes and turn around times on items which require client approval.
• Oversee the recruitment and ongoing management of a Nairobi based team working on this project.
• Support in the creation of work plans for each project element at a detail according to their scale to be reviewed with Project Delivery Team.
• Assist in the delivery of project outcomes with the aim of supporting the team to hit 100% of project targets.
• Initiate research to enhance pilot program and offering.
• Identify local partners who can deliver program collateral and negotiate costs to budget.
• Build positive working relationships with project partners with the knowledge that you will be responsible for coordinating the integration of partner and 4R Digital based deliverables.
• Assist in the management of the project budget, including identifying local partners who can create and deliver program collateral at a cost you will negotiate according to the budget which is allocated and signed off by the Project Delivery Team.
• Work with 4R Digital Project Delivery Team and external consultants where appropriate to help devise successful strategies for each element of project delivery to the client's objectives and targets.
• Monitor the project's success using jointly with the Project Delivery Team, analyzing data outputs and user feedback.
• Support in the writing of month, end of quarter, end of year and ad hoc project reports to the client.
• Build relationships with pilot participants to understand their questions or concerns about the program and to educate them on pilot goals when required. You must be able to communicate relevant questions or concerns to the wider 4R Digital team and work collectively with the team to address participant issues.
• Contribute to the longer term scale-up planning that will emerge from a successful trial.

Experience & Qualification Requirements
Required

• BA, MA or MBA graduate
• Good knowledge of micro-retailers in Kenya and suppliers in the FMCG space
• Experience of working closely with value chain participants throughout the wholesale to micro-retail value chain
• 2 - 3 years’ experience in running complex projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
• Highly organised, self-starting and efficient with excellent attention to detail
• Excellent written and spoken communicator and a real team player
• Excellent client facing skills
• Hands on with project management tools, and Excel & PowerPoint to a good standard
• Familiarity with a range of online and social media platforms and technology as all projects will be delivered on one or more online platforms
• Experience in project management / project coordination
• Experience in online media
• Confident in overseeing the work of others
• Confident in delivering when under pressure
• Able to multi-task
• Fluent in English and Kiswahili
• Good knowledge of Nairobi

Desirable
• Experience of the international development sector
• Experience in product management

Personal Capabilities
• Be a team player with the ability to collaborate closely with a remote team
• Ability to brainstorm and present creative ideas to the team, partners and clients
• Writing and presentation skills are required
• Confident working directly with clients
• Prepared to travel around Nairobi and potentially out of the city to make visits to participating users and support on user workshops

The Role
We will be hiring someone on a fixed-term 5 month contract with a 1 month probation period. At the end of the period there will be the possibility of extending for a further term, should the pilot be successful.
