Minimum Requirements
• At least a master’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Agroecology, Environment or related disciplines from a recognized university.
• A highly competent Field School Master Trainer.
• Highly competent in managing complex and multi country projects
• Technical/Functional Skills
• Cross-cutting knowledge, skills and experience related to biodiversity and natural resources management at landscape and community levels in diverse contexts.
• At least 10 years’ direct experience of Field Schools programming and technical backstopping.
• Proven experience in curriculum development for Master Trainers and Facilitators of Field Schools (FS)
• Proven experience in developing training materials for FS, Facilitators and Master Trainers
• At least 5 years proven experience in conducting Facilitators and/or Master Trainers Courses on FS.
• Excellent Project management and budget monitoring skills.
• Excellent writing and documentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,and demonstrated ability to effectively interact and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders and sectors.
• Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Oversee the collaborative strategic design of FS approaches for delivering landscape interventions towards sustainable land and forest management (SLM/SFM) in diverse contexts of Africa.
• Engage with counterpart technical agencies to identify areas of linkages and synergy
• Provide substantive input in the development of the integrated regional technical support and oversight plan to include enhancement of FFS/APFS methodology at country level.
• Provide technical leadership in capacity assessment of identified stakeholders to apply and implement catchment/micro catchment based SLM/SFM technologies, approaches towards Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN)
• Lead the project team in development of a comprehensive FFS/APFS capacity building plan
• Lead a team of experts and stakeholders in developing an integrated FS curriculum for implementation of both landscape and household level interventions towards improved dryland health and community livelihoods
• Provide leadership in generation of training materials for FS, Facilitators and Master Trainers based on the curriculum developed.
• Lead other experts attached to the programme in preparing and facilitating training courses for Master Trainers on FFS/APFS.
• Lead the project team in providing technical backstopping and mentorship to trained FS Master Trainers during ToTs and refresher courses.
• Lead the project team to support the design of and facilitate regional thematic learning events on transformative landscape models for promotion and adoption of SLM/SFM through FFS/APFS
• Work closely with the project team including M&E and Communication experts to document innovation case studies
Organizational Setting
The Programme Manager will work under the overall guidance of the IIRR-Kenya Country Director. He or She will work closely with and strengthen the FFS/APFS capacities of identified stakeholders at national and community levels in selected project sites in Africa.
Terms and Conditions
• The appointment will be for an initial period of one year with the option to renew the term subject to satisfactory performance of services and availability of funds.
• We will provide competitive remuneration commensurate with skills and experience.
• The duty station will be in Nairobi, Kenya with frequent travels to IIRR partners and project sites in Africa.
