IDEO.org is a nonprofit design studio on a mission to design a more just and equitable world. We partner with nonprofit organizations, foundations, governments, and communities to design programs, products, and services focused on improving health, economic mobility, and wellbeing.
About the N. Nigeria & Ethiopia MNCH Program
In early 2022, the A360 Amplify program will enter into a new design phase with the goal of Integrating Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) services to its existing interventions for Young Married Adolescent Women in Ethiopia (Smart Start) and Northern Nigeria (MMA). Motherhood remains a primary goal for many, if not all, of the married adolescent girls who are reached through A360’s programming. Even as A360 supports girls to identify and act on a broader set of aspirations in life and to take up contraception in line with their fertility preferences and aspirations, the project recognizes the need to support them to have the information and agency they need in order to pursue healthy pregnancies when they decide to become mothers. Additionally and critically so, the project will also help them maintain continuity of care so that they can continue to act on their fertility preferences after they give birth.
Responding to this emergent need for continued adaptation of two A360 interventions in Northern Nigeria and Ethiopia, IDEO.org and PSI will collaborate through a six month design process, covering design research, insight refinement, prototyping, testing and preparation for pilot.
About the broader A360 Amplify Program
A360 Amplify is one of the anchor initiatives within our Africa portfolio at Ideo.org (based in Nairobi). Initially, A360 was a $30 million 4.5 year collaboration between Ideo.org and Population Services International, running from January 2016-June 2020. It focused on designing Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH) programming oriented towards choice and autonomy for adolescent girls, in Nigeria (Northern and Southern), Ethiopia and Tanzania. The next phase of A360, called A360 Amplify, was executed in 2021. It focused on optimizing and replicating successful past interventions in Nigeria, Tanzania and Kenya. The objectives for the A360 Amplify Program in 2021 were to adapt each of its existing interventions to improve effectiveness, integrate interventions within government health systems to sustain implementation, and generate learning that can contribute to the global ASRH evidence base.
