Project Assistant
Context

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Migration Environment and Climate Change Unit, direct supervision of the Project Manager and the oversight of the Head of Programme and Policy Development, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the administrative coordination, implementation, monitoring and reporting on activities under Migration, Disaster and Climate Change Joint Programme.
Core Functions / Responsibilities
• Assist in implementation and monitoring of all operational, logistical, and administrative activities of Migration Environment and Climate Change Unit's the Migration, Disaster and Climate Change Joint Programme, in close coordination with the Project Manager.
• Work closely with the selected local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and monitor their implementation of the Joint Programme activities in Turkana County.
• Undertake field visits (especially in Turkana) to improve the programming, implementation and monitoring of the Migration, Disaster and Climate Change Joint Programme.
• Liaise, coordinate, and maintain strong relations with national and local government partners and authorities, and other partners and stakeholders on the implementation of the Migration, Disaster and Climate Change Joint Programme.
• Document and maintain records of project-related correspondence, progress and other relevant technical documents including payment requests and similar routine documentation for the projects as it relates to the Migration, Disaster and Climate Change Joint Programme.
• Support in collecting monitoring and evaluation data according to the overall monitoring, evaluation and learning plan of the Migration, Disaster and Climate Change Joint Programme.
• Assist in the development of visibility and communication materials and other relevant background documents as it relates to the Migration, Disaster and Climate Change Joint Programme.
• Draft meeting notes, reports and other correspondence, and assist in disseminating to relevant counterparts as it relates to the Migration, Disaster and Climate Change Joint Programme.
• Provide technical support in order to increase the understanding of the projects and Migration Environment and Climate Chang-related issues and initiatives to relevant and interested partners and stakeholders.
• Organize and coordinate meetings, conferences, training sessions, and events as directed.
• Participate in internal and external meetings, conferences, and events relevant to Migration Environment and Climate Change Unit, as assigned.
• Stay abreast of the Migration Environment and Climate Change-related issues and challenges posed in Kenya and East and Horn of Africa, and institutional and humanitarian developments in Migration Environment and Climate Change.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Education
• University degree in Environmental Studies, Climate Change, Development, Migration Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with three years of relevant professional experience.

Experience
• Minimum three years of relevant professional experience in a similar setting.
• Experience in project assistance or project implementation in international donor funded projects.
• Experience in project monitoring and data collection
• Strong knowledge on environment and climate change
• Experience in contributing to drafting project documents and reports.
• Experience working with UN agencies, international organizations, or nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).
• Experience liaising with national and local governments as well as with various national and international NGOs.
• Experience working in hardship situations.
• Experience working in Migration Environment and Climate Change-related projects is a must.
• Proven understanding of Migration Environment and Climate Change -related issues in Kenya as well as East and Horn of Africa.
Languages
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Swahili
