JOB DETAILS:
The American Center for International Labor Solidarity (Solidarity Center), an International NGO focused on labor and worker rights issues, is seeking candidates for the Program Officer (PO) position. The PO works under the direct supervision of the Country Program Director (CPD) and is responsible for assisting with the development, writing and implementation of all Solidarity Center programming within Eastern & Horn of Africa. S/he should be conversant with various aspects of program activities and current events relevant to the on-going political, economic and social developments in the region. The PO will be based in Nairobi but must be able to travel frequently within Kenya as well as throughout the East & Horn of Africa. .

Job Responsibilities:
• Programmatic planning and implementation of worker based training and capacity building activities
• Be conversant with the Solidarity Center and USG's regulations that govern grants and/or other agreements that fund the activities of the office.
• Conducting research and assessments to inform Solidarity Center programs and activities
• Assist in writing concept papers and proposals to actively seek continued funding for the organization's programs
• Prepare and update annual work and budget plans for Solidarity Center activities and monitor their progress to completion
• Developing monitoring tools for program monitoring, evaluation and learning,Produce well-written program reports.
• Help build strong relationships with Partners and identified trade unions in the region.
• Provide direct technical assistance to the field support partners.
• Representing Solidarity Center in stakeholder and partners meetings
• As directed by the (CPD), liaising with the headquarters office in Washington and other field offices within Africa as needed.

  Job Qualifications:
• The PO must have a bachelor's degree in either Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Labor relations, or related fields and/or at least five (5) years equivalent work experience.
• Candidates should have a good understanding of the main trade union issues within East & Horn of Africa Region.
• Previous experience with an international NGO or trade union is strongly desired.
• S/he must have strong project management and leadership skills and be capable of managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English and verbal skills in Kiswahili are required.
• Fluency in French, Arabic and/or Somali would be an added advantage Computer literacy for word processing and simple Excel spread-sheets is a must.
• Proven ability to work well within a team as well as independently is also important.
