Position Overview:
• Room to Read seeks to recruit for Program Manager, Partnership and Expansion to support operations in Africa to meet demand for growth and expansion in Africa. This role is key to support and catalyze new business development, seek out initiatives & partnerships in non-presence countries.

• Specifically, the position will report to Regional Director, Program Operations (RD) and work closely with Regional Operations Manager (ROM) Africa to provide strategic operational support to the Country offices, and Custom Projects and expansion to new geographies to ensure effective planning, implementation of programs or projects and efficient communication flows. This position is part of the Global Office Program Operations team.

• In collaboration with the Dev team the position will support the new business development and delivery of projects and initiatives using agile practices and provide input into resource planning and allocation in coordination with the Africa ROM and RD. The role will guide and support project teams to deliver high-quality, evidence-based, innovative programs.

• He or she will act as the team champion to ensure team alignment and support a culture of continuous learning by establishing a robust and consistent measurement of impact and program quality.

• The position will be based in Nairobi and will require travel within the region as necessary and available.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Track progress and provide Program management and surge support as needed bringing the familiarity of country programs, objectives and key results, and regional knowledge.

• Build strong lines of communication across our Africa Country offices and custom projects, DevCom, and the Global technical teams.

• Play a hands-on role in facilitating opportunity scoping in the continent and relationship-building to expand Room to Read to new geographies in Africa, including developing presentations for new potential partners and senior government officials.

• Conduct, as available, due diligence or field assessments of potential partner or implementation firms in key markets as identified.

• Provide security, political, economic monitoring and analyzing regional trends and events in the geographies Room to Read implements projects and programs.

• Work with the Dev, RD, ROM, CDs, and GO Africa PDTA teams to identify and respond to potential opportunities and assist in expanding and diversifying Room to Read’s portfolio Provide direct inputs into dashboards to ensure timely management of the Africa portfolio

• Review and contribute to country project fundraising and partnership proposals and track regional funding opportunities and progress

• Identify, anticipate in a timely manner potential risks, roadblocks, and issues, and elevate to Africa RD, ROM, and CDs, proposing courses of action for consideration.

• Support new custom projects in their inception phase and gap-fill to support implementation as in-country teams are put in place

• To support Custom Project Managers, implementing partners and their teams to complete new project design analyses - from initial scoping to project start-up, including support and work planning.

• Support regular country office and custom project budget, planning, and strategy exercises, by providing quality assurance.

• Input to strategic custom projects, including new initiatives and regional collaborations between country projects and teams

Qualifications:

• Related Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Development Studies, International Relations, or other relevant discipline; Master’s Degree preferred

• A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in the related field

• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to express facts and ideas in a clear, convincing, and organized manner.

• Demonstrated ability to present complex issues to higher-level management and contribute to high-level presentations and discussions

• Strong communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills

• Proven track record of success is a high-level independent and team contributor to lead multiple projects and processes.

• Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills with strong attention to detail and ability to effectively manage multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously.

• Strong planning, budgetary, Project management and implementation experience

• Possess professional maturity, sensitivity with different cultures, and impeccable integrity that exemplify Room to Read values.

• Experienced in new business development, identifying funding information sources and carrying out in-depth research on funding opportunities.

• Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to explain complex issues clearly for external audiences

• Ability to travel at least 30% to support Country and Field Offices.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Suites; Excel, Word, Teams and PowerPoint and comfort learning new applications (Salesforce, Adaptive, SharePoint)

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Language and Good knowledge of French is as asset.

• The applicant must have legal residence status in Kenya.
