JOB DETAILS:
Principal Engineer, Engineering

Job Purpose:
Coordinate and manage maintenance of Electrical, Mechanical and refrigeration systems and machines of the Institute.

Requirements:
• At least eight (8) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been at supervisory level in the public or private sector;
• Bachelor Degree in any of the following fields: Mechanical, Mechatronic, Chemical & Processing, Electrical & Electronics, Biomedical Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Master’s degree in any of the following field: Engineering, Business Administration or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Management course lasting less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
• Professional membership to the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
• Proficiency in computer applications;
• Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Coordinate the planning and execution of HPT and biomedical processing schedules;
• Coordinate plant, equipment, and machinery optimization programs;
• Initiate and undertake process improvement projects;
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act 2007 (OSHA) and Environmental management requirements;
• Collaborate with Production, Marketing, and Quality Assurance in the bioproduction and packaging operations to ensure timely delivery of quality products; Develop stock management programs;
• Facilitate preparation and submission of periodic reports;
• Undertake formulation of Bill of Quantities, terms of reference, machines specification and verification of the quality of supplies;
• Plan and supervise plant/machinery maintenance and ensure obsolete equipment and machines are identified and recommended for disposal;
• Contact equipment manufacturers and vendors for information for service provision;
• Ensure weighing scale/bridges and equipment calibration;
• Coordinating projects/repairs with contractors and other in-house support team;
• Monitor stocking levels of spares and consumables;
• Advise on key issues that impact processing and engineering;
• Coordinate implementation of new technologies; and
• Participate in departmental budget preparation.

Terms of Service
The successful applicant will be appointed on permanent and pensionable terms.
