JOB DETAILS:
Plant Operator
We are now looking for a Plant Operator to join our O&M team at Athi River II Power Plant, Nairobi - Kenya. The Successful candidate will report to the Operation Manager.
What will you be doing?
• Complete and maintain all logs and running records in a clear and concise manner according to the stipulated guidelines.
• Responsible for taking corrective action during system operational disturbance and/or bringing such disturbances to the attention of the Shift Supervisor.
• Effectively communicate the condition of the plant equipment and performance to the person in charge of the shift and fellow plant personnel.
• Responsible for maintaining the plant in a clean and safe condition at all times.
• Perform emergency procedures in order to protect personnel and equipment in case of damage or failure of safety deficiencies.
• Utilize all tools, equipment, and accessories in such a manner so as to maximize useful operating life.
• Assist in ensuring safe and efficient operation of the plant by bringing violations of colleagues to the attention of the Shift Supervisor or duty manager.
• To perform planned and corrective maintenance as directed and as needed and to account for all parts and materials, supplies and fluids used in the performance of that work- Any other duties assigned by the superior.
• Responsible for the safe and economic operation and maintenance of the plant during the designated shift.
• To comply with all safety regulations including isolation, lock out and tag out.
• Responsibilities: - Operate and maintain the plant during the shift according to company policies and procedures.
• Maintain the plant power production at the output designated by management. Operate the plant within the acceptable loading envelope under plant dispatch directives from utility.
• Assist in start-up, shut-down and normal operations of the power plant systems.
• Provide the relieving shift operator with a complete handover, bringing to their attention any operational disturbances, malfunctions, or abnormalities.
Development Responsibilities:
• Give recommendations on plant continuous improvement plan. - Give recommendations to changes in OpEXS (Quality, safety, and environment).
• Give recommendations to changes in plant standard operation procedures. Authorities:
• Authorised to operate plant equipment as defined by the operation procedures.
• Delegated other authorities by the shift supervisor as one performs his duties.

• B.Sc in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent educational background.
• Minimum two (2) years' experience in operation or maintenance of a Power Plant.
