Pharmacist

Job purpose

Providing leadership in the management, use and control of pharmaceuticals in the hospital and to work with all stakeholders (doctors and other care givers) in ensuring efficient, ethical and safe application of pharmaco-therapy in patient management.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing safe dispensing procedures and ensuring safe drug use processes (drug administration and monitoring of drug effects)
  • Actively participating in drug-use-reviews (DUR) by advising prescribers on rational and optimal pharmacological drug effects and by conducting appropriate patient
  • Participating in clinical rounds
  • Participating in antimicrobial stewardship initiatives

Qualifications

  • Practical experience in oncology pharmacy is required
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy from a recognized institution
  • Registration Certificate and Practice License from Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • 3 years’ work experience in a busy hospital.
  • Certification in procurement will be an added advantage ï‚· Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

 

Dentist

Job Purpose

To ensure highest standard oral health services are provided in the facility by setting the pace and also supervising and mentoring the junior staff.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Provide routine and emergency dental services, including exams, diagnosis and treatment plans, cleanings, general restorative procedures, crown and bridge, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated endodontics, and minor oral surgery.
  2. Prescribe and interpret X-ray and lab studies.
  3. Administer and prescribe anesthetics and medications.
  4. Advise and instruct patients regarding preventive dental care, the causes, and treatment of dental problems, and oral health care services.
  5. Ensure the delivery of all dental treatment and care is consistent with all regulatory, accreditation and professional standards, including clinic policies and quality initiatives.
  6. Demonstrate a high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements.
  7. Ensure accuracy, efficiency and appropriate confidentiality with patient charting and related recordkeeping.

Qualifications

  1. Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Surgery (B.D.S) or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  2. Must be registered/licensed by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
  3. Valid retention certificate.
  4. A desire to continuously improve the quality of dental care provided by the department.

Pharmaceutical Technologist

Job purpose

Duties and responsibilities involve compounding and dispensing medicine in a safe and professional way and working closely with the medical and nursing staff to ensure patients get the optimum care.

Registered Clinical Officer

Job purpose

In closely working with the medical practitioners, the clinical officer is to offer quality clinical health care to all patients in the hospital. The clinical officer is responsible in acting as the first line of clinical services and patient care in a professional and responsible manner.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive and high-quality clinical services including (Take/review the patient’s history to ascertain the right clinical examinations and treatment and prescription of treatment) to patients.
  • Order investigation and interpretation of results for diagnosis and explain the results to the patients and the intended treatment.
  • Diagnose and institute appropriate treatment, write prescriptions, and carry out other treatment activities while ensuring that established treatment protocols are effectively followed.
  • Attend to emergencies presenting to the hospital and recommend referrals for cases that cannot be managed.
  • Ensure that all required observations and vitals, prescribed treatment and procedures are carried out and documented on patients’ charts.
  • Create phenomenal patient experiences, including counseling and sensitizing patients through health talks on preventive and promotive health.
  • Embrace, learn and develop in an evidence-based medical system in line with Nairobi Adventist Hospitals’ protocols.
  • Ensure effective clinical procedures, rules, regulations which are consistent with organization procedures.

Oncology Nurse

Job purpose

Overall responsibility to ensure all oncology clients have been reviewed and their cancer treatment initiated as per the protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to patients and clients having been diagnosed with cancer using the nursing process framework.
  • Undertake screening services for various cancers and help diagnose patients early.
  • Work with the Oncology team to navigate patients through the cancer treatment journey.
  • Support clients who have been diagnosed of cancer psychologically through their journey to recovery.
  • In collaboration with the finance team ensure clients get appropriate insurance approval to facilitate smooth treatment.
  • Ensure the chemotherapy protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines
  • Champion safe handling of cytotoxic drugs and appropriate disposal of waste.
  • Run survivorship programs to promote mental health of patients and improve care outcomes
  • Run Hospice services and palliation to improve quality of life
  • Participate in community outreach programs and creation of awareness about cancer and its treatment
  • Give a specialist advice to the Nurse manager in regard to the Oncology nursing care
  • Champion quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in theatre as advised by the Quality Lead.

Requirements

Radio-Sonographer

Job purpose

The jobholder will support the implementation of processes and practices across the organization. The specific duties of a Radio Sonographer include carrying out all routine diagnostic radiographs and ultrasound at the center.

Roles and responsibilities

  • To undertake initial patient evaluation, provide a range of diagnostic radiographs, perform ultrasound, Doppler and ECHO examinations by capturing images of diagnostic value on patients and produce high quality images whilst ensuring that radiation doses are kept to a minimum.
  • To provide a high standard of technique and patient positioning and ensure that standards are maintained.
  • Lead the department Quality Assurance equipment testing initiatives.
  • To develop and implement a Picture Archive & Communication system for reviewing images and reports.
  • Ensure proper documentation and management of patient’s records.
  • To develop a sound knowledge of the equipment used in order to be aware of malfunctions and errors and to report such to a Lead Radiographer.
  • To use ultrasound testing to view the fetus in the womb to determine size, weight and/or gender, along with any potential problems with the fetus.
  • To maintain daily logs of patients seen, and perform routine maintenance of machines.
  • Develop and Implement Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Imaging department and keep up to date with health and safety guidelines, including ionizing radiation regulations, to ensure safety of patients’ staff and self.
  • To provide support and reassurance to patients, taking into account their physical and psychological needs.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Higher Diploma in Radiology & Sonography or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Radiation Protection Board.
  • Be a registered member of Radiation Protection Board.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working under a qualified Radiologist.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and technology.

 

Anesthetist

Job Purpose

The Job holder will formulate department objectives with the help of medical officer in charge of hospital. Ensure standard operating procedures, protocols and guidelines in management of patients are followed.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for giving anesthesia to all emergency and elective cases conducted in theatre, both minor and major surgeries.
  • Conduct peri-operative (pre and post) review of all patients within 24 hours.
  • Supervise theatre staffs and ensure smooth running of theatre activities and procedures in addition to allocating the support staffs duties.
  • Assist in management of very sick patients in the ward when called upon e.g. patients who need urgent resuscitation and intubation.
  • Be part of the emergency trauma team and called upon in case of an accident with mass causalities.
  • Attend and participate in the daily morning hospital hand over meetings.
  • Participate in weekly continuous medical education (CME) at the hospital.
  • Conduct on-job training of staff through both practical and theory sessions.
  • Do theatre coverage and on-call, ensuring 24 hour coverage.
  • Properly cover nights and weekends, arrange a rotation schedule with fellow clinical officer anesthetist.
  • Perform routine clinical work as required by your supervisor.
  • Participate in camp health surveys/campaigns/surgical camps as required.
  • Keep complete and accurate inventory of medicines and supplies located at the theatre and monitor and supervise their usage.
  • Ensure all medication equipment, supplies required for anesthesia are ordered in good time ï‚· Ensure the anesthetic machine and operating table are well maintained and report any fault, need for repair or maintenance in good time.
  • Provide health talks to patients/clients on day to day basis.

Qualifications

  • Registered Clinical Officer Anesthetist with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Anesthesia and Surgery from KMTC or recognized medical training institution.
  • Registered with the Clinical officers Council of Kenya.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as an Anesthetists in a busy hospital setup.
  • Ability to make quick decisions in a highly stressful environment ï‚· Good clinical and anesthetic skills.

 

House Keeping Supervisor

Job Purpose

To ensure that all the housekeeping activities of the hospital are of the highest standards and that the hospital and its environment in kept clean and safe for both patient and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor, guide and supervise housekeepers work
  • Manage the laundry and kitchen departments
  • Set work plans for housekeepers
  • Review cleanliness of hospital with frequent spot checks daily
  • Act upon results of hygiene audits to improve cleanliness of hospitals
  • Set Rota for housekeepers and allocate areas for housekeepers to work in
  • Provide regular training to housekeepers on hygiene standards and cleaning requirements in a hospital setting
  • Provide intensive inductions for new staff
  • Regularly review performance of housekeepers and provide training to address performance gaps
  • Raise and sustain cleanliness and quality standards within the hospital and its environs
  • Supervise cleaning, mopping and sterilizing all the areas in the hospital including the public waiting areas
  • Disinfect patient rooms upon patient discharge or patient room swap using specialized cleaning agents to prevent the spread of germs.
  • Promote patient comfort within the patient rooms
  • In collaboration with ward in charge, tidy patient rooms to maintain order and neatness. ï‚· Sterilize sinks and toilets, and mop all floors daily ï‚· Ensure cleaning of hospital exterior.
  • Study the ISO Document on the waste management and review the following areas:
  • Biological waste generated by the hospital.
  • Non-biological waste including but not limited to kitchen waste, office waste, paper, plastics and glass.
  • Separation of the waste named above and identifying different methods of disposal including recycling.
  • Ensure all relevant polices, and standards are met and upheld.

Qualifications

  • A Diploma/ Degree in either Hotel and Catering Management or Hotel and
  • Hospitality management or its equivalent
  • Proven experience of not less than 2 years in a health institution.
  • Computer literate
  • Hardworking and committed.

Laundry Attendant

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize contaminate clothing, linen, and other materials while following OSHA guidelines.
  • Clean bathroom area, including mirrors, sinks, toilets, urinals, and floor.
  • Assist nurses with patients and when slow work as a float nurse aide going to different units throughout the hospital.
  • Examine laundered items to ensure cleanliness and serviceability.
  • Operate equipment and follow instructions according OSHA regulations.
  • Monitor feeder information on washers and dryers to ensure proper operation.
  • Operate washers and dryers according to recommend capacity and other manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Communicate with residents on a daily basis and build relationships and foster caring and compassion in day-to-day tasks.

Qualifications

  • Be holder of a craft in laundry or related course from a recognized training institute in Kenya.
  • Experience in hospital cleaning services
  • Proven work experience as a Laundry Attendant or similar role
  • Familiarity with cleaning detergents and laundering equipment 
  • Ability to stand for long periods. 
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.

 

Procurement Officer

Job Purpose

The Job holder will be responsible for implementing the Hospital’s sourcing, tendering, and purchasing activities to ensure efficiency, cost effectiveness and value for money in line with the Hospital’s objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and enforcing the hospitals procurement policies and procedures
  • Manage the entire process of planning of commodities, procurement and supply chain activities.
  • Ensure effective lines of communication to facilitate timely delivery of commodities using the most appropriate procurement procedures.
  • Responsible for introducing process improvements in the supply chain and identify new vendors/suppliers.
  • Establish and implement a monitoring system that ensures the prices paid for commodities are in line with local market prices.
  • Develop and manage the rosters of suppliers, elaborate supplier selection and evaluation of quality performance measurement mechanisms.
  • Assesses, prioritizes and manages multiple activities with attention to detail, meeting tight deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual procurement plans and progress reports as required ï‚· Ensure transparent and competitive procurement is conducted and properly documented as required and in compliance with the hospital policy and plans.
  • Organizes and leads the bid solicitation process including drafting and issuing tenders, developing bid evaluation criteria and guiding clients on process involved.
  • Calls for and oversee selection committee to review applications and select vendors/ suppliers and ensures integrity of the competitive process, facilitates bidder debriefing where necessary and exercises appropriate judgment and tactfulness while ensuring protection of confidential information
  • Prepares service delivery contracts and service orders for all acquisition needs
  • Maintains procurement files including all relevant documentation and vendor/ supplier tracking system and maintaining all the relevant information concerning the organization suppliers.
  • Manages supplier/vendor contracts and maintains relationships with suppliers to ensure completeness of deliverables outlined in the contract ensuring that all supplier complaints and concerns are addressed promptly for continuity of services at all times.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Diploma and/or Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement or Supply Chain Management from a recognized University/College.
  • Must be a member of a recognized professional procurement body (KISM, CIPS) or it’s equivalent.
  • Must have at least CPA section IV or its equivalent
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a procurement environment preferably in a Hospital setting.
  • Computer efficiency skills.
  • Knowledge of contract law is an added advantage.

Adherence Officer

Job Purpose

Responsible for providing technical support in planning, implementation and evaluation of adherence support required for HIV prevention, care and treatment services within NAH supported facilities in collaboration with Ministry of Health (MOH).

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Attend and contribute during site meeting within and outside.
  • Offer quality integrated HTS at the site and in outreaches
  • Ensure effective referral, linkage and follow up of HIV positive clients
  • Effectively follow up index and social clients to reach their contacts – PNS & SNS ï‚· Participate in QA activities-PT and internal quality improvement processes ï‚· Adhere to the set SOPs and algorithm in delivering services.

  • Ensure proper waste management and cleanliness of the site.
  • Undertake routine data quality assessment per supervisor guidance.
  • Timely and accurate report writing, on weekly and monthly basis.
  • Do monthly summary for test kit used at the site and outreach.
  • Manage RTKs (Rapid Test Kits) and ensure Infection Control and Preventions practices.
  • Conduct GBV screening and lead SNS activities.
  • Help client develop an understanding of their treatment and its challenges.
  • Prepare clients to initiate treatment.
  • Provide ongoing support for clients to adhere to treatment over the long term.
  • Facilitate clients develop good treatment-taking behavior.
  • Ensure appointment keeping and tracking of clients.
  • Conduct targeted home visits.
  • Maintain and update appointment diary and missed appointment registers ï‚· Supervise ART client’s trackers.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • Diploma in Social or health sciences
  • NASCOP certified training in HTS Counselling
  • NASCOP certified training in Adherence counselling
  • At least 1-year experience conducting HTS and adherence counselling services among PWIDS
  • Strong interpersonal and coordination skills

ICU Nurse

Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to maintain a caring and high professional standard of nursing care, meeting the needs of the patients in all aspects and promoting job satisfaction in the nursing team. In addition the jobholder is responsible for the assessment of patient needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care plans and the care delivered on daily basis.

Critical Care Nurse (ICU) provides most of the direct care to patients in life threatening situations within intensive care unit. 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the Critical Care Nursing provided within the Hospital on a 24-hour basis. ï‚· Contact person for individuals, cooperate and medical insurance schemes at NAH hospital. ï‚· Ensuring quality standards, safety and continuous improvement of patient clinical outcomes in ICU.
  • Monitor the critical patients for changes in status and indications of conditions such as sepsis or shock and institute appropriate interventions.
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity and inform the ICU Doctor on duty as is necessary.
  • Responding to life-saving situations, using nursing standards and protocols for treatment.
  • Care for pre- and post-operative patients when those patients require ICU care.
  • Assess patients’ pain levels and sedation requirements.
  • Prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.
  • Assess family adaptation levels and coping skills to determine whether intervention is needed.
  • Acting as patient advocate.
  • Providing education and support to patient families.
  • ICU nurse must be able to draw ABG Blood and interpret report correctly.
  • ICU nurse should have enough knowledge about GCS (Glasgow Coma Scale) and also evaluation capacity of patient condition.
  • To practice at all times infection prevention practices as stipulated by the hospital protocols.
  • Responsible for accurate record keeping in regards to patient care and good maintenance of the records.
  • Communicating with a range of patients and their families, ensuring that clear and accurate information is included in the patients’ notes.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing Diploma holder or equivalent.
  • Must be a Kenya Registered Critical Care Nursing.
  • Must have Basic Life Support Course and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course
  • Must have a valid practicing license from the Kenya Nursing council
  • Three (3) year related experience
  • Excellent proficiency in use of Computer
  • Proficiency in reporting, typing and record keeping.

 

Registered Nurse

Job Purpose

The major role of the nurses shall be to administer treatment as prescribed by the doctor to patients and clients. They also have a role to offer advice and emotional support to patient and their families to ensure provision of a holistic care.

  • Assessing patients and clients and establishing health care needs.

Qualifications
