JOB DETAILS:

Job Description
CrossBoundary Energy Access is recruiting a full-time Business Operations Manager to support scaling and consistent performance of the systems and processes. These systems and processes will drive CBEA’s business as an owner of portfolios of solar mini-grids. The Business Operations Manager will identify opportunities for improving firm data management and streamlining process workflows, then oversee planning and rollout of the new tools and procedures to realize them. This person will also be responsible for aggregating data from all teams for regular reports supporting management decision-making and investor requirements. Bringing cross-functional experience across business disciplines (business development, IT, finance, human resources, communications), this role will use strong organizational, problem-solving, and change management skills to support construction of the reliable architecture CBEA needs to operate with industry-leading efficiency and precision.
CrossBoundary is an investment firm – CBEA will look to you for practical insights on how to make discrete business decisions that will directly affect our financial outcomes.

Who We Are
The chosen candidate will play an important role in a unique team with the opportunity to make a large impact on the energy access and renewable energy landscapes in Africa, bringing first-time grid quality power to 1 million people. Team members come from diverse backgrounds, but share a number of qualities: curiosity, humility, integrity, a drive for excellence, and a bias for action.

CBEA is a small team, so we are looking for someone with a flexible skillset that can be adapted to add value across all of the team’s various activities. The ideal candidate is comfortable with ambiguity, able to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, and passionate about energy access and renewable energy.

Who You Are
• Self-starter who is passionate about creating lasting change within the energy sector in underserved markets
• Excellent attention to detail, but are solution-oriented and able to operate in situations where information is scarce, and the environment is constantly changing
• A diligent closer; you have excellent follow-through and find a way to deliver consistently on complex, multi-stakeholder assignments on time and on budget
• Compulsive organizer and optimizer; you’ve made rules for how you do most activities and you’re constantly updating your practices to improve results
• A person who has awareness of and experience working with the latest software tools and applications for business data management and process automation
• Willing to take on new types of work, even without prior experience or direct supervision
• A flexible, utility player

Primary Responsibilities
• Create and update maps of core team processes and data flows across Investment, Technical, and Operations teams
• Research and oversee implementation of new software tools to improve business processes and assist teams with troubleshooting and adoption
• Draft firm policies and procedures to document business operations approaches
• Manage contracts with third-party service providers
• Support finance and policy teams to monitor and maintain statutory compliance in all CBEA markets
• Lead CBEA entrance and incorporation in new markets
• Design and deliver data-driven reports to measure firm KPIs, inform management decisions, and meet investor reporting requirements
• Oversee firm knowledge management and implement improved methods of information-sharing across functional teams
• Lead on short-term, interdisciplinary strategic initiatives at the request of the Operations Lead

Qualifications
Ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:

• 3-7 years’ experience working in operations, IT, or business intelligence roles at an international corporation or consulting for similar clients
• Experience overseeing operation of ERPs or other data management and integration solutions
• Experience in or understanding of working in African markets, particularly in the energy sector

Required skills and qualifications:
• Cover letter describing at least two specific examples of prior work assignments you have completed that are relevant to the responsibilities of the CBEA Operations Manager
• 3+ years’ experience working in operations, IT, or business intelligence at a top-tier international corporation or consulting for similar clients, OR
• 3+ years’ experience working in operations, IT, or business intelligence supporting growth of a start-up enterprise
• Background in change management or business process optimization

• Comfort with ambiguity; ability to operate and create structure in a changing context
• Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Bachelor's degree
• Right to work in Kenya
• Think you have what it takes but not sure you check every box? If you're passionate about what we're building, we want to hear from you!
