Responsibilities
Within delegated responsibility, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for performing the following duties:
• Assists in consulting technical sections/units to identify acquisition requirements;
• Identifies all routine requirements within the mission, prepares, implements and controls appropriate sourcing methods to cater for them, ensuring optimal utilization of available resources;
• Provides advise to technical Sections and SCM on the acquisition of new inventory based on known and future projects including proposing changing of storage locations, as and when required;
• Assists with the preparation of the weekly reports for major projects, key challenges and emerging situations;
• Provides support to mission clients in terms of sourcing methods to cater for Technical Sections’ requirements;
• Assists in assessment of feasibility to support, cost, time to fulfil and impact on mission operations for all request for purchasing support from other UN entities;
• Participates in generating an effective and efficient demand planning and coordination with the Operational Support Managers (OSMs) in the field and Technical Units Operations Officers and SCM;
• Reviews Mission's logistics implementation plan and operational directives to develop effective deployment plans and prioritization for goods and materials demands to mission locations;
• Participates and ensures the development of logistics emergency, contingency plans and identifies ways to overcome obstacles when delivering goods.
• Coordinates and ensures assignments for the cooperative use of equipment with UN agencies, funds and programs;
• Researches and analyses operational usage and performance trends, legal, administrative, and legislative requirements, supports the development of training for staff and other mission personnel as required;
• Prepares documentation and reports for review of mission materials and asset holdings, including vehicles, for senior management review and decision making;
• Perform other related duties as required.

Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical certification/diploma or other supplemental academic qualification or training in the field of logistics, supply chain management and/or demand planning. Training on Business Intelligence for ERP systems or similar is desirable.
Work Experience
• A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in remote logistics operations, supply, supply-chain management, or large-scale fleet management or asset management or Contracts Management or related area is required.
• Experience in planning and coordinating is desirable.
• Experience in the United Nations Common System (UN peacekeeping political missions, or UN agencies, Funds, and Programmes) or a comparable international organization or non-governmental organization in a conflict or post-conflict setting is desirable.
• Experience and knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Power Point) is desirable.
• Experience with MRP (Materials Requirements Planning), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), e.g. SAP ECC (ERP Central Component), or SRM (Supplier Relationship Management) in the areas of production planning, scheduling, inventory control, procurement and logistics processes is desirable.
• A valid Driver's license, including the ability to operate a manual-transmission light vehicle in 4x4 conditions, is required
Languages
• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
