The International Solidarity Foundation (ISF) is a Finnish non-governmental organisation established in 1970 in Finland. ISF's mission is to support development that strengthens democracy, equality and human rights. ISF's most important values are solidarity, equality, equity and participation. Currently, ISF supports development projects in Somaliland, Kenya and Nicaragua through its local NGO partners. In Kenya, ISF works against Gender Based Violence, especially Female Genital Mutilation. In 2019 ISF launches programme to support local women entrepreneurs in Kisii. ISF has been supporting NGOs in Kenya since 2015.
Business Officer's primary responsibility is to lead and support planning process of ISF's entrepreneurship development programme at country level, with an overall goal of finalized project plans that contribute to ISF programme goals. Business Officer works under direct supervision of ISF Regional Director in Africa and cooperates closely with ISF Programme team in Finland, especially with the Adviser on Sustainable Livelihoods and Entrepreneurship.
The specific functions of the position are:
• Collect data of existing women entrepreneur groups in project area
• Map constraints and opportunities for women business groups in local business ecosystem
• Based on existing data participate in ISF livelihood programme focus selection at country level and coordinate local partner selection process
• Assess partners' project management capacity and coordinate capacity development activities for local partners
• Assist partners and other stakeholders in addressing market and regulatory constraints that hinder access to business services for the low-income market segments in Kisii
• Collaborate with private sector, funders and other relevant stakeholders
support partners in project planning process and project plan formulation, including monitoring plan
• Report on programme progress
• Any other duties assigned by the Regional Director
Required skills and Qualifications are:
• University degree holder in a business-related field
• Experience working with the microfinance sector, banks, SACCO's, informal finance group
• Demonstrated project planning and program management skills Excellent communication, report writing and computer skills
• Minimum six years of relevant job experience in development work, - Minimum four years of job experience in an international and/or large national development organization
• Excellent knowledge of local development policies and actors, including local authorities and international development actors in Kenya
• Solid understanding of the themes of ISF's programme, experience in women's rights is advantage - Excellent ability for initiative taking and independent work
• Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills - Excellent knowledge of English and Kisii (written and oral).
