1. Introduction

The Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW) is a national Kenyan not-for-profit women’s rights organization. We are committed to advancing women’s rights; and work towards achieving a society free from all forms of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). COVAW was founded in 1995 as a response to the silence of the Kenyan society to address VAWG. COVAW implements projects under five (5) strategic focus areas including: Access to Comprehensive Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) Services; Women’s Economic Empowerment; Women’s Leadership Development; Access to Justice; and Institutional Development.
COVAW Strategic Plan for 2018 – 2023, outlines our ambitions, interventions and approach towards achieving our vision of a society where women and girls enjoy equal rights and freedoms and thrive in safe spaces. In developing this strategy, deliberate attempts have been made to ensure we contribute to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 and that our work is aligned to national gender priorities and relevant international and regional instruments on women’s rights.
2. COVAW’s Strategic Plan is anchored on five key pillars/strategic focus areas:
• Access to Comprehensive Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Services
• Women’s Economic Empowerment
• Women’s Leadership Development
• Access to Justice
• Institutional Development
Through these pillars, COVAW contributes to empowering women and girls to address discrimination and VAWG including advocating for a progressive policy environment, addressing any attempts to reverse hard- won gains on gender equality and support capacity development of relevant actors.
Duties and responsibilities
a) Program Support
• Conduct research and analysis of relevant legal and human rights materials on gender and disabilities, women refugees, single mothers and other minority groups.
• Analyze economic exclusion of women engaged in business, in Nairobi County informal settlements, using an intersectionality perspective.
• Support the programme team with the drafting and editing of reports, presentations, official communications, and articles
• Support with compiling of program data bases with participants disaggregated data on a regular and consistent manner using an approved excel spreadsheet.
• Provide logistical support on activities such as the organization and reporting of conferences, events, forums and training workshops, etc.
• Plan and manage virtual meetings with relevant partners and stakeholders on a regular basis.
b) Communications
• Implement social media advocacy in line with COVAW’s programmatic areas, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate and with guided direction where applicable.
• Ensure that COVAWs website remains update with current photos, content.
• Increase COVAWs presence and voice in mainstream and social media by actively engaging in the different social media platforms.
• Support the development of a social media corporate culture into COVAW.
• Support social media campaigns and day-to-day activities, including blogging.
• Provide regular feedback to program teams on insights gained from digital/social media engagement and monitoring to help them engage in an optimal fashion.
• Seek regular input and feedback from program staff for social media and website.
• Monitor media for discussions that COVAW should speak in and ensure COVAW’s correct views are shared in a timely manner.
• Update COVAWs contacts/mailing lists and share COVAW news regularly.
• Support in the preparation of write ups, Op-eds for COVAW website based on program work and organisational position.
To diligently perform your duties, these responsibilities will require a flexible approach including working outside the usual working hours. The suitable candidate should be prepared to perform other duties outside the usual job description if called upon to do so.

Required Qualifications
4. Qualifications/Skills:
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Political and Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Administration, Economics, Law, International Affairs or other related field) completed in the last three years (2019, 2020,2021).
Skills:

A learning attitude is key.
• Strong interest in working women’s rights;
• Demonstrable skills in analytical thinking, communication and research;
• Good IT competence, command of main office software programmes, internet communication, social media and searching skills;
• Document and graphic design skills an asset;
• Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines;
• Ability to perform a variety of administrative tasks;
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and a strong team working capacity.
Language:
Excellent knowledge of English with fluency in speaking, reading and writing. French would be an added advantage
Terms of Appointment:
Duration of the internship is six months. The successful intern is required to work full-time during office hours.
