Tanager is implementing the impacting Gender & Nutrition through Innovative Technical Exchange in Agriculture (IGNITE) mechanism a five-year investment funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The mechanism aims to improve household nutrition and women's empowerment by strengthening African institutions' ability to integrate nutrition and gender into their way of doing business and their agriculture interventions
while identifying key mechanisms and drivers of demand for the scale up and replication of nutrition-sensitive and gender-integrated interventions
POSITION SUMMARY: Tanager is seeking a Gender Expert, based in their office in Nairobi, Kenya, to lead the design and provision of technical services to IGNITE government and private sector dients. The Gender Expert will report to the IGNITE Team Leader..
Job Responsibilities:
• The gender expert will also provide technical thought leadership or identification of effective and efficient models that increase women's empowerment in agriculture. He/She will support IGNITE clients with the development, design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of gender-integrated interventions in agriculture;
• Strengthen IGNITE dients' capacity to integrate gender into their business practices and policies; Provide technical thought leadership on identification of effective and efficient models that increase women's empowerment in agriculture.
• The Gender Expert will be expected to manage gender support and engagements with IGNITE's government and private sector dients; and Provide thought leadership to Tanager in other gender-integrated agriculture investments

Job Qualifications:
• Master's/university degree in sociology, anthropology, women's studies, gender studies, or other related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years' work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa in mainstreaming gender equity into food security, nutrition, or agriculture programs; including a minimum of 5 years' experience facilitating training on gender mainstreaming in agriculture, facilitating training on gender, leading gender analysis and/or gender audits, providing gender technical support to government and/or private sector clients; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in designing and implementing tools and approaches to support government and private sector institutions integrating nutrition in their agriculture work. Understanding of nutrition sensitive agriculture concepts in Africa and ability to integrate a nutrition-sensitive lens into gender approaches and experience working with agricultural market systems, rural producers, farmers' associations, agribusinesses, private sector agricultural production, marketing, or sales, and/or governments.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, including demonstrated ability to write required documents in a dear, concise, well-organized manner. Advanced computer skills in a Windows based environment including Word, Outlook, Power Point and Excel. Fluency in English, written and oral required. French language skills desired.
