JOB DETAILS:

Are you an experienced Health and Safety Officer looking to improve our site working conditions? Do you have a keen eye to spot hazards and potential danger? Then you are what we are looking for.

PERSONALITY AND SKILLS
The ideal candidate for this amazing opportunity should be experienced and currently or have previously served in the position of a Health and Safety Officer, however to stand out from the crowd for selection into this role you would need to display the following core characteristics:

Note: This position requires the successful candidate to live for extended period of time out in remote shared Accommodations site in the Mount Kenya Region, however basic food and Accommodation shall be catered for.

Principle Accountabilities
• Carry out daily workplace Health and safety inspections and prepare any nonconformance reports and assist in developing corrective actions.
• Lead in conducting frequent safety trainings and creating awareness on a safe work environment culture among employees. Trainings include: Hazard Identification and Control, Basic Fire Awareness, Wastes Management, Emergency Preparedness and response, PPE use and Covid IPC measures.
• Carrying out investigation of all incidents and near misses and provide appropriate and suitable recommendations to ensure non-recurrence.
• Review work procedures and method statements for compliance with good work practices.
• Conduct safety inductions and toolbox meetings to workers onsite.
• Assisting the Trauma nurse with First Aid and Nursing duties
• Managing emergency procedures such as fire alarm drills and organizing emergency team such as fire marshals and First Aiders.
• Can be assigned any other work or duty.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
• Proven 3+ years of experience as a Health and Safety Officer
• Diploma in health and Safety Management from an accredited institution.
• Accreditation in Occupational Health and Safety
• Deep understanding of the legal health and safety guidelines and laws
• Ability to produce reports and develop relevant project management policies
• Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
• Working knowledge of Safety Management systems
• Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
• Trained in First Aid, Lifesaving and Covid 19 Response and Management would be an added advantage.
