Overview
What You’ll Do
The Head of Engineering role at CloudBees focuses on defining and leading the implementation of long-term strategic technology roadmap. This role brings company-wide architecture, platform, data design and engineering practices under one leader. The Head of Engineering is responsible for the common foundational technology strategy for the company.
Key goals of the Head of Engineering include expanding globally and ensuring availability in all regions, improving software delivery efficiency, product resiliency and optimizing compute and network costs as well as growing and managing a global engineering team.
• Leading the strategy, planning, and execution of the CloudBees technology roadmap
• Defining, evolving and implementing CloudBees Architectural Principles
• Working cross-functionally with teams inside CloudBees and influence decision making within senior-level audiences
• Researching global technology trends and their applicability to CloudBees’ capabilities
• Representing CloudBees at technology conferences and at executive level customer engagements
• Evangelizing, define and implement self-service software to drive efficient software development practices
• Maintaining strong relationships with key customers, partners, and vendors
• Promoting a positive work environment; select and train new team members; continuously provide feedback, mentoring, and coaching to existing team members
• Partnering closely with business leaders across functions to identify and prioritize the company’s goals
• Leading leaders globally; mentoring and fostering a high performing collaborative team

Key responsibilities include:
• Partner with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to develop and drive CloudBees’ Platform strategy:
• Learn and understand the near and long term needs of our customers, partners, internal stakeholders
• Develop and champion the near-term targets against long term strategy for how developers build applications on the Salesforce ecosystem
• Partner with peer organizations and the office of the CTO and CISO to develop long term strategic technology plans
• Build a world class engineering team:
o Foster and facilitate the professional growth and development of our engineering staff as well as lead effective cross-functional collaboration across groups within the organization
o Build organizational capability within these teams by recruiting and retaining outstanding talent and providing mentoring, training (internal and external), and other opportunities for professional growth and development
o Partner with peer functions and organizations to deliver the training and enablement the team requires
o Lead, motivate, and challenge a diverse distributed team
o Ensure that your products and systems are Trusted:
• Meet/exceed the security, reliability, performance and scalability requirements required to continue to be the most trusted PaaS in the industry
• Deliver best in class products that developers and customer love to use because they can be trusted, are integrated to Salesforce products and easily integrated to their process and tooling
• Communicate, Collaborate, and Deliver:
o Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure and environments (public/private) and able to lead the team through strategic architectural decision making and technical challenges in implementation
o Communicate design and decisions and influence technology and product direction of peers and executive leadership
o Make and meet commitments. Communicate change in plans whether they be design or timeline modifications honestly and transparently
o Implement best engineering management and organizational development practices:
• Lead through organizational scale and priority changes
• Streamline and deliver greater efficiency in the engineering organization, both in software development and operational activities
• Drive continuous systems improvement for managing, documenting, staffing, and reviewing engineering projects and services
• Reflect best practices back into our products and recommendations for customer implementation

What The Role Requires What You’ll Get
• Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure and environments (public/private) and ability to lead the team through technical challenges in implementation
• Hands-on full-breadth (architecture, development, program management, QA, performance, and operations) expertise
• Deep understanding of developer operations, developer experience and developer tooling
• Strong orientation to user needs and experience
• Demonstrated expertise at navigating complex organizational issues and driving results collaboratively and/or through directive management
• Strong and broad working knowledge of the state of the art in cloud computing infrastructure including IaaS, PaaS, containers, analytics, data center deployments, and others
• Experience working in high growth companies and the ability to identify and build new capabilities as the scaling needs arise
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills of teams across multiple geo-locations.
