Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company Ltd ( NAWASSCO ) is a Company established under the Companies Act [Cap 486, Laws of Kenya] and is wholly owned by the County Government of Nakuru. The objectives of the Company are broadly and extensively formulated in the Memorandum and Articles of Association and cover a wide range of activities directly related to or associated with the provision of water and sanitation services within Nakuru East and Nakuru West Sub counties and its environs. The Company is seeking of the following Positions with individuals who are customer service oriented, qualified and experienced and who seek to be part of a result—oriented team.

NAWASSCO/02/05/2018-GIS Analyst

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the successful candidate shall be responsible for Performing intermediate advanced technical work providing technical support for BIS implementation and operation, creating, testing and enhancing BIS applications, developing and administering web-based BIS applications, preparing GIS datasets, maps, database reports and specialized queries and address and zoning databases.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Incumbent creates implements, integrates and maintains GIS applications utilizing ArcGlS based platfom1 [ArcGlS Editor and ArcGIS Info in relation to water utility.
• Create maps and graphs, using ARCGIS software and related equipment in a water utility.
• Meet with users to define data needs, project requirements, required outputs, or to develop applications.
• Trains staff in the use and preparation of GIS data and user interfaces.
• Assists with data creation and collection including the principles and practices of Global Positioning Systems [GPS].
• Conduct research to locate and obtain existing databases.
• Gather, analyze and integrate spatial data from staff and determine how best the infom1ation can be displayed using GIS in water utility.
• Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including customer surveys, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
• Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
• Design and update database, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations.
• Enter new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate infom1ation using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography and map scales.
• Analyze geographic relationships among varying types of data.
• Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.
•  Uses all required safety equipment.
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

• Diploma /Higher Diploma Qualifications in Geo—information Systems [GIS] or Computer Science] IT with PGD in GIS with at least 2 or 3 years‘ experience with the use of ArcGlS in water related field.
• Diploma I Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering, Geospatiall Survey Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, Environmental Sciences or Water Engineering with at least 3 years practical experience with the use of ArcE-BIS in water related field.
• Good Project Management Skills.
• Good command of fourth generation languages [4GL] and object—orientated programming
• Good knowledge of RDMS e.g. Dracle, Microsoft SQL Server etc.
• Experience with ArcGIS 9.2 + extensions BIS track record, including proficiency with standard GIS applications and data layers
• Good Knowledge of data issues, awareness of different coordinates systems
• Digital cartographic and map production skill and use of Spatial Analyst extension
• Experience with AutoCAD
• Ability to develop and maintain data bases
• Be a Person of high integrity and meet the requirements of chapter six of the constitution of Kenya.
• Age: 25 and Above.

Contract Terms:
This position is on Contract Terms for 3 years with a possibility of being converted to Permanent and Pensionable Terms depending on the outputs/deliverables and suitability on the job.

An attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities will be negotiated with the right candidate.
