Lwala Community Alliance (Lwala) is a community-led innovator proving that when communities lead, change is drastic and lasting. Founded by Kenyans, Lwala's team now has 85 staff members and engages over 200 community health workers. We have leveraged this bottom-up, multidimensional approach in an all-out effort to drastically reduce maternal and child mortality! We are tackling the key drivers of deaths – gender inequity, barriers to education, poverty, unplanned pregnancies, unskilled deliveries, and delayed treatment of childhood illnesses. We are on a 5-year strategic initiative to scaling our community-led health model to reach 1,000,000 people by 2020. The position is responsible for timely and efficient processing of payments while ensuring proper and accurate accounting records are prepared and maintained, transactions are posted into the system as required, and correct records are kept and stored safely. It individual is also responsible for providing periodic accounting and financial reports. Key Responsibilities
• Prepare payments and write cheques while ensuring proper supporting vouchers and documentations are properly drawn with all the necessary verification, approval and authorization obtained in settlement of invoices in respect of services and goods supplied.
• Process transactions, sort all financial data, post all items in accounting system (QuickBooks) as per correct vote heads, budget lines and ledger to record accounting transactions in a timely manner, and generate accounting statements and financial reports.
• Ensure QuickBooks accounting system is duly updated on a daily basis
• Review payment requisitions as received by staff for payments
• Initiate and Validate Mpesa payment in the portal and work with the finance office to ensure that the Mpesa Utility account is reconciled on a daily basis.
• Processes requisitions from teams and coordinate release of cash to units
• Reconcile daily cash takings from the cashier and report any discrepancies immediately.
• Carry out monthly reconciliation of cash and bank reconciliation and debtors and creditors, generate accurate statements and report any discrepancies immediately.
• Ensure that LPOS and commitments made during the month are duly booked into the system at the end of every month..
 Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required
• Good analytical skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• Excellent computer skills including proficiency in accounting packages such as Quick-books, Pastel etc.
• Good report writing skills
• Basic auditing skills
Qualifications
• Undergraduate Degree
• Bachelor’s degree in finance/Accounting (desired)
• CPA Part 11
• At least one (1) year’ experience in a similar position preferably in an NGO environment..
