Organisational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. UNON supports programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UNHABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services www.unon.org).
The post is located at United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), Security and Safety Service. .
Under the overall command of the Chief of Security, and under the supervision of the Security Operations Center (SOC) Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Responsibilities
• Maintains inventory, keeping accurate and regularly updated records of equipment and its location, and ensuring stock is maintained at the level to meet needs.
• Circulates new communication and/or telecommunication policies and procedures to staff.
• Keeps all messages sent/received by all communications systems in place strictly confidential.
• Tracks movement of all missions (staff and vehicles) in the field through well-defined procedures and processing all external and internal security clearances timely.
• Ensures day-day maintenance of vehicles assigned to his/her office including necessary documentation and supplies.
• Ensures that all the equipment placed under his/her responsibility is in good working condition, make simple repairs, and/or arranges promptly for repairs or replacement of equipment.
• Maintains contact with Air Service Providers and give details to UNSMS organizations flight arrivals/departures.
• Keeps a log for all communications and dispatch messages without delay to the receiving office.
• Provides operational support in collecting security information, receiving/transmitting and recording the same.
• Maintains all emergency contacts in duty stations in Kenya and in neighboring Countries/mission areas.
• Answers and dispatch incoming calls during office and non-working hours.
• Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of incidents.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplemental training in radio communications theory and practical or UN security in the field experience is an added advantage.
• A minimum of three (3) years' work experience in assets management is required.
• A valid driving license is required.
• Prior experience in security communications and managing security communications equipment is desirable.
• Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
