About the Kenya Field Manager Role
Responsibilities
• Work with our IDinsight Southern and East Africa teams to prepare for and collect data in the region. This includes drafting field plans, planning travel logistics, managing relationships with vendors, and overseeing the data collection process. This will involve travelling to the specific sites to oversee the data collection. The level of involvement will vary depending on the country.
• Work with our teams to ensure that COVID-19 prevention protocols are implemented and adhered to in the different regions. This also involves ensuring that locally specific contingency plans are developed, communicated, and followed in the case of any COVID-19 exposure.
• Supervise field teams (e.g., enumerators, supervisors, and drivers) as needed
• Participate in refining survey instruments, including translation and back translation of questionnaires from English to local languages, if needed
• Manage all human resource duties including preparing payrolls, per diem payment, and schedules
• Manage data quality checks through audio checks, spot checks and back checks, and ensure data integrity
• Participate in and co-lead enumerator training and mentor and motivate team members
• Communicate feedback and clarifications to enumerators in a way that is effective, sensitive, respectful, clear, and thoughtful
• Manage with high integrity and understanding, the interaction with local administration, enumerators, community members, and household heads
• Responsible for ensuring that all research authorizations, updated documents are carried to the field along with other items on the Survey Checklist
• Relay field costs/budgets/advance requests to Associates within reasonable time for payment

Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Development Studies, Project Management, International Development, or Education, or equivalent experience
• 3-5 years experience in data collection and managing field teams
• Demonstrated experience in managing field teams of at least 20 field officers during data collection
• Previous data collection experience in household surveys and observations (ideally with mobile phones/tablets using Survey CTO or Open Data Kit)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, as well as Swahili language
• Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database management, email and utilization of internet
• Highly motivated, able to take initiative, a reliable team player and comfortable relating to community members and household heads
• Excellent communication skills are critical for this role, with respondents, community members, local officials, and team members
• Ability to work comfortably with culturally sensitive groups and communities
• Previous experience managing finances, enforcing budget controls and producing high quality finance reports
• Well organized, detail-oriented, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
• Responsible for taking good care of all inventory and data collection tools with high integrity
• Extremely strong data and analytical skills and incredible attention to detail – you can pick out a mistake in a dataset from a mile away
• Creativity, a positive attitude, and strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent stakeholder coordination skills – you’re a strong writer and verbal communicator who can negotiate with internal clients and be persuasive, but also humble and open to other viewpoints.
• Professional maturity and ability to stay calm under pressure
• Strong quantitative reasoning skills – you can QC contracts, POs, and orders without support

Desirable:
• Excellent knowledge and technical skills in coding Survey CTO
• Data collection experience in East Africa
