Purpose of the position
The primary objective of this position is to contribute to the achievement of SDG 7 in least developed countries. The specific purpose is to conduct a country specific study on the various business and financial models in electric cooking to recommend what works and what may not as well as providing both policy, technical, capacity, market and fiscal investment recommendations. The candidate is expected to provide a comprehensive, systematic and well-prioritized overview of concrete e-cooking consumer financing models, investment and business opportunities in Kenya while acknowledging the historical, current and potential challenges. The aim of this work must be tailored to the information needs of potential investors and accelerate the e-cooking business and financing in Kenya.

Qualifications
• The candidate should have an advanced University degree in economics, finance, business administration, engineering or other field related to energy business models, with additional years of relevant work experience.
• A minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in the area of sustainable energy in development context.
• First-hand experience in dealing with sustainable energy financing solutions is required. Experience with national energy plans and/or working experience from least developed country would be an advantage.
• A good record of academic publications will be an added advantage
Skills and competences
• Excellent interpersonal, management and communication skills with proven ability to support narratives to describe results.
• A team player with ability to build strong working relationships, and experience working across different disciplines.
• Ability to work under limited supervision and meet deadlines
• Good writing and analytical skills and demonstrated ability to engage in technical writing
• Ability to write effectively and report to different audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver to tight deadlines and to work on a wide range of different demands.
Main Responsibilities
• Review of the various e-cooking financing models applicable in Kenya highlighting their pros and limitations as well as their applicability in Kenya. The analysis should appreciate the various factors promoting or limiting the practical applicability of the models in Kenya.
• Analyze the local cooking energy landscape in Kenya and explore the opportunities for e-cooking and the challenges giving recommendations on how to overcome them.
• Present the investment needs required to reach optimal clean cooking energy technologies in Kenya by 2030. Analyze the current financing flows relevant to e-cooking in Kenya and the main impediments blocking new investments.
• Identify and present the key implementable programmes and projects for grid, mini-grid and off-grid sectors to promote e-cooking in Kenya and map out the financing required, ensuring the climate change resilience of the proposed programmes and projects. Estimate (wherever applicable) the climate change mitigation potential of each project (tons of CO2 equivalent emission reduction potential based on UNFCCC methodologies) with a view to mobilize climate finance at later stages.
• Present financing routes and offer recommendations on how to unlock private sector finance, and tap into business opportunities, including through public-private partnerships.
• Facilitate focused discussions with key stakeholders including Government, private sector, CSOs, projects developers, development partners and project developers and technology providers, and liaise with other similar and relevant projects to ensure alignment and exchange of best practices. Provide recommendations for the government, development partners in taking next steps and identify potential investors.

• Six (6) months duration.
