Job Description: Title Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) HUB Microbiologist
Reports To The ECHO HUB subject matter expert will report to Ms. Susan Githii, at the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL).
Job Overview: The successful candidate will provide technical and programmatic support for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Program supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Society for Microbiology (ASM) in Kenya. S/he will work towards the success of the program goals of: [a] Provide technical guidance and support to the Ministry of Health (MOH) NPHL, in particular those related to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and [b] Strengthening laboratory Systems support training curriculum for the laboratory quality management systems (QMS). Specifically, the ECHO HUB coordinator will provide [1] programmatic and technical support on laboratory strengthening activities, [2] coordination and procurement support for the ECHO distance learning activities, and [3] assist with communication between the NPHL, CDC. and ASM. .

Job Responsibilities:
• Prepare biweekly ECHO sessions:
• Coordinate didactic module presentation
• Identify and invite subject matter expert (SME) to each session
• Select the case presentation for each session
• Review the case presentation submitted by participating AMR surveillance Spoke laboratories prior to ECHO session
• Coordinate with the NPHL to ensure adequate preparation of each ECHO session
Lead ECHO sessions hosted from the NPHL HUB:
• Review module content and post test results in conjunction with ASM and NPHL to determine key learnings and revisions for next session
• Solicit feedback from participants on topics to cover and feedback on the style/ usefulness of the meeting.
• Coordinate with ITECH to ensure that all information technology [IT] related issues are identified and resolved prior to ECHO scheduled sessions,
• Review and provide written summary of each case study at the end of the ECHO session.
Coordinate local procurement and maintenance of ECHO equipment and supplies
• Procure requested supplies
• Inventory ECHO assets with an indication of the functionality of each asset
• Resolve problems related to supplies and equipment as they arise Use complete sentences.
Build long-term capacity and sustainability of ECHO at NPHL
• Work collaboratively with NPHL and participating AMR surveillance sites Facilitate the participation of new Spoke sites that have the capacity to perform AMR surveillance testing of priority pathogens
• Identify and mentor individuals to present future didactic sessions
• Schedule [1-2] prospective mentee microbiologist sessions.
• Assist with communication and correspondence between NPHL, CDC, and ASM
Participant in stakeholder meetings and calls and other programmatic support, as needed. This position will be part time and the salary will be on experience.

Job Qualifications:
• University degree in medical laboratory science or a related field from a recognized university
• Postgraduate degree in medical laboratory science or public health or related field
• 3-5+ years relevant work experience in health laboratory quality management systems, biosafety, and specimen transfer including experience at international level
• 1-2+ years' Experience of working in microbiology services and in the management of large health projects, international coordination and collaboration.
• Working experience in resource-constrained setting and understanding of health systems
• Effective working relationships with diverse groups, including co-workers, international stakeholders, funders, partners, vendors, and others.
