Job Description
The Regional Director of East Africa is responsible for oversee build the capacity of local offices, leading and managing the Country Directors – ensuring that each Country Office has a quality strategic plan in place to deliver Baitulmaal strategic ambitions and enabling high performing teams to work together to deliver a strong performance against agreed and ensure compliance with Baitulmaal policies and standards.

This newly established position serves as the point of contact between headquarters and local staff. It is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and reports to the Head of Africa office, so the role requires courageous and inspirational leadership skills, a drive that delivers results and the ability to build strong and constructive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

As Regional Director of East Africa, will be able to demonstrate significant experience in international relief and development with specific skills and experience in strategy development and management, as well as program quality, accountability, and impact, working in partnership, change leadership, transition management, staff development, coordination, and teamwork.

Responsibilities Include:
• Provide visionary leadership, direction, and motivation to Country Directors through an observable and passionate commitment to vulnerable groups’ rights.
• Build and maintain a high-performing Country Directors team that delivers against Baitulmaal strategic goals and measures, whilst demonstrating behaviors consistent with Baitulmaal values and behaviors.
• Develop a growth strategy for East Africa in coordination with headquarters and with country offices.
• Endorse each country’s strategic plan and annual budget/business plan, ensuring that they are fully implemented and fully in line with the global strategy.
• Organize the assessments of projects and follow-ups for tracking impact on beneficiaries to ensure that country offices demonstrate that Baitulmaal standards of quality are being achieved and operate consistently within Baitulmaal key policies and procedures, including programming, influencing, brand, risk management, HR, finance, and cash management.
• Coordinate creative accountability and learning activities and seek opportunities to share this learning beyond the sub-region.
• Lead the development of and implement standard operating procedures and contingency plans for emergency response.
• Represent Baitulmaal with the relevant government entities.
• Build and maintain constructive relationships with NGO, Un agencies, INGOs representatives and current/potential donors.
• Ensure that Country Offices have a robust grant acquisition strategy and support Country Directors in achieving their agreed annual revenue, cost and efficiency targets.
• Support headquarters with an operational start-up in other areas, when necessary.
• Other duties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Leadership & Programs
• Experience and knowledge of current trends and future trends of the humanitarian and development sector, and in particular a thorough understanding of East Africa.
• Proven experience and skills in project design including developing innovative ideas and multi-sectoral and complex emergencies.
• Experience in recruiting, managing, and mentoring local and international staff and empowering them to reach their highest potential.
• Substantial experience and knowledge of effective budgetary control and grant management.
• Proven experience of successful resource mobilization including strategic engagement with institutional donors.
• Experience working in multiple countries, conflict context and in areas which most affected with climate change impacts such as South Asia and East Africa.
• 15 years’ Experience, working in an international organization and in a high Admin position for a minimum of seven years.

Education
• Proofed studies on Master Level in Social sciences, Sustainable Development, or other relevant disciplines.
Communication
• Proficiency in English is a MUST and Arabic fluency is preferable, additional languages (particularly French and German) are a strong asset.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to details.
Technical
• Computer literacy skills with Microsoft Office, Google, and similar platforms.

Preferred Experience:
• International relief and development Programs; Preferred experience with coordinating programs in WASH, Medical, Poverty and Hunger, and Orphan support sectors. Director experience, Child Labor Eradication, and Infrastructure Development a plus.
• Experience with emergency, conflict, post-conflict, or post-disaster settings.
• Cross border and remote management.
• Education with specialties in Emergency Shelter and Settlement and Climate Change and Sustainable Development will be an advantage in this region
