JOB DETAILS:
The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Act 2013, established the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) to primarily promote, streamline, coordinate and regulate research in crops, livestock, genetic resources and biotechnology in Kenya. The Act establishes sixteen (16) Institutes and fifty two (52) Centres/ Sub-Centres within the Organization. In this regard, in order to enhance proper utilization of resources, fully realize its mandate, improve on performance and at the same time deliver quality services to its clientele, the Management wishes to competitively fill with experienced and qualified candidates .

  Job Responsibilities:
• Overseeing the general administration and management of the Institute;
• Developing, implementing and reviewing research plans, policies, strategies, and programmes in liaison with the Research Institute Advisory Committee;
• Coordinating identification and prioritization of research programmes;
• Preparing short and long term research programmes within the framework of the national agricultural and livestock research systems;
• Facilitating effective dissemination and adoption of KALRO technologies, products and innovations;
• Promoting the establishment and strengthening of strategic partnerships and collaborations;
• Coordinating resource mobilization for research;
• Developing effective and efficient planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting framework for programmes and projects;
• Aligning the Institute's targets to overall performance contract of the organization;
• Coordinating preparation of Institute workplans and budgets;
• Ensuring prudent management and utilization of Institute resources;
• Ensuring capacity building at the Institute.

  Job Qualifications:
• A PhD in a relevant field from a recognized University:
• Served as a Chief Principal Research Officer or an equivalent position in comparable research organization;
• Six (6) years post qualification experience in relevant field;
• Proven research output with at least eight (8) papers published in the last five (5) years; Demonstrate ability to attract research funds;
• Demonstrate success in training and supervising junior research staff Undergone a Senior Management Course/Strategic Leadership Development Program or their equivalent from a recognized institution;
• Knowledge on policy formulation and negotiation skills and stakeholder engagement; (ix) Demonstrated professional competence;
• Computer literate.
