Nurse In-Charge Maternity Department

Job Summary:

To effectively add value on enabling good patient outcomes and shape best clinical and non-clinical practice at KSH.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The incumbent shall:

  • Providing excellent nursing care to patients.
  • Maintaining the Hospital's policies, standards and procedures of nursing care.
  • Prepare staff work schedules/Rota and assign available staff to specific patients
  • Coach and mentor Maternity nurses
  • Communicating effectively with all other patients’ care givers.
  • Upholding statutory regulations as required by the nursing profession and the laws of Kenya.
  • Safeguarding all Hospital and patients’ confidential information and property.
  • Handling client complaints and incidents and escalating the same where necessary.
  • Ensure accurate, proper and procedural documentation and proper record keeping of patients’ medical  records in HMIS.
  • Utilizing the available resources effectively for quality service delivery, profitability and cost containment.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree holder
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certified or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • EMonC training certification
  • Recent SRH training certificate(added advantage)
  • At least 2 years experience in a Maternity Department in a Hospital environment
  • Valid NCK practice license
  • Experience with HMIS is an added advantage
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Team leader
  • Good customer care skills

Resident Medical Officer

Job Summary:

Under the direction of more experienced medical staff and through collaboration with other health professionals, the resident medical officer will be tasked with providing effective appropriate medical care to both inpatient and outpatient clients commensurate with their capabilities and in accordance with delegated clinical privileges.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under full time supervision of the Medical Director, the incumbent shall:

  • Provide appropriate medical care to patients presenting in the outpatient department. 
  • Request for appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both inpatient and outpatient clients.
  • Appropriately offer referrals and treatment options to clients when called upon.
  • Be available for urgent and emergent care of patients within the facility.
  • Provide and document all necessary documentation on the hospital medical record platform.
  • Be available for review of inpatients if and when called upon.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: 

  • Must be a holder of MBChB or other equivalent degree recognised by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council in Kenya 
  • Should be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council with updated license for the year 2023.
  • Should have a professional indemnity cover for not less than KES 1,000,000. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving, training and team building abilities.
  • Good clinical acumen and skills.
  • Must be computer literate and ready to work with an integrated management system.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks. 
  • Ability to consult when needed.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills and organizational skills. 
  • Training in BLS/ACLS/ATLS is mandatory  
  • Training in PALS is an added advantage
