Our client is a Financial Service Company that focuses on wholesale lending to institutions and strategic firms across various sectors such as microfinance institutions, real estate, agribusiness, fintech and manufacturing sectors mainly in Kenya and in Eastern Africa. They have identified that lack of capital is still the largest constraint to SME growth in Kenya and East Africa and therefore wishes to establish a fund that seeks to provide capital for institutions offering profitable products across the region. Large financing gaps exist across various sectors in the region which are under-served compared to their credit needs and contribution to the economy. They are therefore poised to play a significant role in providing alternative sources of debt financing to businesses across various sectors of the economy. Our client wishes to recruit a Credit Analyst / Credit Manager.

JOB SUMMARY
The Credit Analyst will review creditworthiness of individuals or businesses, particularly for more complex and sophisticated transactions, to determine the risk involved in lending money or extending credit. You will manage a portfolio of clients and report to the CEO.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for the review and approval of credit proposals to the Company and to maintain a good balance between returns and risks exposure
• Ensure high standard credit quality of the portfolio by using various credit assessment tools.
• Engages the development, implementation, review and monitoring of various credit programs and continuously upgrade competency
• Review and develop the Company’s credit approval policies and guidelines as well as participate in ad hoc projects of investigative or trouble-shooting nature on specific customer portfolio.
• Ensure adequacy the credit coverage and provisioning of relevant portfolios
• Create credit scoring models to predict risks
• Analyzes credit data and financial statements of individuals or businesses to identify the degree of risk involved in lending money or extending credit.
• Review credit applications and perform credit checks.
• Structure deals and perform risk assessments.
• Uses computer software to evaluate customers financial status and produce financial ratios.
• Compiles information, completes loan applications, and composes reports detailing the degree of risk involved in the loan or credit request; recommends approval or denial based on results.
• Determines the expected profitability of loans by analyzing a business financial data including quality of management, income growth, and market shares.
• Identifies delinquent accounts through the review of individual or commercial customer files.
• Consult and negotiate with clients regarding financial transactions, payment terms, and credit limits.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and submit applications on time.
• Understanding of business, economic, and industry risk.
• Keep abreast of financial news and trends.
• Practice thorough due diligence including site visits

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
• BSc in Accounting, Economics, Banking and Finance or relevant field
• 3-5 years of related experience required.
• Hands-on experience with accounting software
• Solid understanding of lending procedures
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to create and process financial spreadsheets (e.g. in Excel)
• Negotiation skills
• Ethical behaviour.
