JOB DETAILS:
Meta is seeking an experienced Corporate Communications Manager for East Africa to help lead our proactive and reactive projects across the region. The ideal candidate must be fluent in English (oral and written) and ideally one local language. Extensive experience in corporate, product and consumer communications, particularly in handling breaking news, daily issues as well as proactive campaigns. You will need to understand the complex multi-country media environment of the East Africa region, the social debate around our platforms and the cultural context of multiple countries. You will be part of the Sub-Saharan Africa Communications team, managing an agency who support our work within the region. The need to be a self-starter is critical, with the maturity to offer strategic counsel to multiple business leaders and create proactive communications campaigns that bring together strategy, creativity and flawlessly execution across several projects at once. We are looking for a team player who is interested and passionate about Sub-Saharan Africa, and East Africa, someone who is proactive and driven in nature, and is comfortable to work independently. This role is a 10 month contract to cover a period of maternity.

Responsibilities
• Lead and execute Meta’s East Africa PR strategy, plans, programs and budgets based on reputational needs, policy risks and company goals
• Work cross-functionally with numerous teams, locally and globally, to manage media opportunities and broader programs
• Create campaigning platforms to proactive address Meta’s brand reputation challenges specific to East Africa
• Manage policy related press issues for the region, working closely with country comms and policy teams to tackle these issues and build proactive communication moments that advance the company’s position e.g. responding to reporters, drafting statements, correcting inaccuracies etc.
• Identify and pitch ‘good news’ stories about Meta products to deliver a steady pipeline of proactive coverage in key countries
• Provide comms counsel and support for business leaders
• Prepare briefing materials and manage executive spokespeople during media interviews
• Educate press, bloggers and influencers about Meta and its technologies (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram etc.), including investments in Africa and relevant products and initiatives

Minimum Qualifications
• 8+ years professional PR experience, agency and in-house preferred
• Well established East Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa media relationships
• Proven ability to plan and deliver multi-country campaigns by working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders in cross-functional teams
• Excellent judgment, excellent communication and persuasive skills, creativity, perspective and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment
• Strong project management and decision-making skills
• Excellent written and oral communications skills (in English)
• Expertise in managing agencies

Preferred Qualifications
• Written and oral communications skills in an additional local language i.e. Swahili
