JOB DETAILS:
Conservation Education Officer

Community Education Officer will; design, plan, facilitate and carry out conservation education outreach activities among the 40 schools and among other community groups in the 20 focal community areas of Ol Pejeta. They will work closely with all the schools to promote and disseminate the Ol Pejeta conservation education curriculum designed to educate community members on all relevant matters of conservation. They will be the lead actor in the field implementation and mobilization for grants with community conservation outreach work.

The role holder will:
• Make regular and planned visits to the community groups and schools for meaningful conservation education interactions.
• Lead in dissemination, updating, and promotion of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy conservation curriculum
• Keep abreast with conservation affairs in the conservancy and act as the main source of conservation information for our communities.
• Mobilization and education of community members, schools, farmers, youth, and other community demographic groups in tree planting, habitat restoration, and lead conservation outreach work outside the conservation area in the 20 focal community areas.
• Consolidate periodic progress reports highlighting the achievements and challenges along with the project implementation.
• Be the lead actor in the field implementation and mobilization for grants with community conservation outreach work.
• Work closely with the Education Section to ensure that logistics for field visits are coordinated and planned and communities are informed of visits ahead of time
• Familiarize with the expected project core contributions, outcomes, and methodology.
• Collect interesting conservation-themed stories from the community and schools for publication
• Provide briefings to the DM – CDP (Projects) not less than weekly and a monthly report before the 3rd of every preceding month.
• At all times promote the vision and mission of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy and its conservation aims
• Maintain a high level of professionalism and good interpersonal relationship with all staff and community members at all times.
• Ensure adherence to company health and safety standards
• Assist with other work-related duties as may be specified by the Education Officer or DM – CDP (Projects)

Desired Education, knowledge, skills, and experience
• Minimum education: Degree in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Studies, Conservation, or related field.
• Experience: 3 Years’ experience.
• Knowledge: Have significant knowledge of wildlife conservation and developmental issues surrounding conservation within communities outside protected areas.

Key skills and qualities:
• Should be able and qualified to ride a motorcycle
• Passionate about conservation and working with children.
• Should be well organized and fluent in English and Kiswahili.
• Self-starter with analytical skills to carry out project assessments in the field

Bachelor Degree
