JOB DETAILS:
The East African Centre for Human Rights (also known as EACHRights), is a non-partisan, regional Non-Governmental Organisation that seeks to promote, protect and enhance human rights in East Africa with an emphasis on Economic, Social and cultural rights among the vulnerable and marginalised groups. The organization currently specializes in promoting the realization of the right to health and education for children. EACHRights is seeking experienced, engaged and dynamic community liaisons to work on a 3-month education outreach project in Mathare, Mukuru and Dandora informal settlements. The liaisons will be expected to provide community members with information and skills for defending and asserting the right to education and will also work on improving the reporting and referrals of cases or violations within project sites. .
Job Responsibilities:
• Increasing community awareness on the right to education
• Collecting and documenting evidence of violations to the right to education
• Building the capacity of community members to defend and assert their rights
• Conducting outreach and disseminating pertinent information to community members
• Acting as intermediaries where required which may include accompanying complainants or accused persons to schools, government offices, police stations or courts on occasion.
• Developing I. E.C materials
• Drafting simple official or legal documents.
• Reporting according to prescribed templates

Job Qualifications:
• Demonstrable ability to undertake community outreach
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in community engagement
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) including in presentations, report writing and research, in English or Kiswahili.
• Good judgement, discreet, uses tact and discretion
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Be able to perform routine office duties and have basic knowledge of how to use computers, especially the Microsoft office suite.
• Knowledge and experience in human rights and education issues.
• Must be a team player, highly self-motivated and self-driven.
• Desirable: Paralegal training, research experience
