Collections Manager- Financial Services- Kenya

About the career opportunity:
Directly working with the VP Financial Services, members of C-SUITE, Head of Departments & Strategic partners you will be responsible for applying an advanced level of Collections, Financial Hardship, Payment solutions and Debt Recovery expertise. You will supervise members of the collection teams based in different Pan-African countries in order to meet overall organizational goals and objectives across.

What you will do
• Spearhead in the formulation of specific collection objectives and continuously improving all aspects of credit & collection functions and processes.
• Should be strong in debt collection core levers and operations, and hungry to dive into leveraging that knowledge to execute and deliver on existing and future strategies.
• In addition to managing individual and team performance metrics, the Collections Manager will also execute and contribute to strategies for the Collections team to meet and sustain performance to hit the company’s portfolio targets.
• Use credit management skills, a high degree of problem solving, knowledge and experience in the management of delinquency trends, recoveries and write-offs.
• Provide leadership, guidance and training to develop personnel and ensure the transference of skills and efficient achievement of goals and objectives to the immediate collections team.
• Project relevant trends that affect the collectables of the non-performing portfolio and isolate potential problem areas.
• Manage multiple concurrent priorities spanning projects and initiatives.
• Be responsible for observing regulatory changes within the FMCG space particularly those that touch on credit products and ensuring the business is properly aligned.
• Review and develop policies, systems, processes and develop reports as requested by C-SUITE
• Work with cross-functional teams such as product in defining payment systems, and collections systems.
• Maintain fluency in product knowledge, management of credit algorithms and collections procedures.
• Perform any other duties within the scope of this position.

What you should have

• Masters in a Business Related field or Business-related degree
• A credit industry qualification is a plus.
• 7+ years of experience in credit with an affinity to the FMCG sector in multiple Pan-African countries
• 5+ years in a supervisory/people management role in multiple Pan-African countries
• Extensive knowledge of department processes.
• Strong specialist people leadership experience with an ability to lead, influence and manage change
• Must have significant experience in a Collections management role in financial services
• Demonstrated capability in setting, monitoring and changing collections strategies.
• Solution focused, with demonstrated ability to apply strategic thinking, problem-solving & implement new ways of working.
• Demonstrated experience working with risk appetite and policy settings.
• Strong attention to detail and strong decision-making skills.
• An advanced level of knowledge and application of legislation and codes that apply to collections.
• Strong analytic skills to analyze and drive performance, and derive data-driven recommendations.
