Job Summary
• This role will support the SPARK study (SuPporting African communities to increase the Resilience and mental health of Kids with developmental disorders and their caregivers).
• The purpose of this assignment is to provide diagnostic assessment and clinical care for children screened for developmental disabilities in the catchment areas of the SPARK study.
• The successful candidate will be hired on a short term staggered contract and will operate from the health facilities in the SPARK research catchment area (Informal settlements of Dagoretti and Ruaraka sub-counties). He/she shall report to the Principal Investigator and other senior project team members.
Responsibilities
• Conduct clinical diagnostic verification of children assessed by frontline workers for developmental disabilities within SPARK research catchment areas;
• Assist with provision of clinical care to children assessed;
• Provide information, education and support to families or guardians on developmental disabilities and management;
• Increase caregiver awareness on developmental disabilities and management;
• Ensure adherence to standard operating protocols and ethical regulations of the SPARK study;
• Effective communication and coordination with health and research teams; and
• Timely submission of study records and reports.
Requirements
• Diploma in Clinical Medicine and registered with the Clinical Officers Council; additional training in mental health and psychiatry is an added advantage
• At least 2 years’ experience in clinical care or research studies;
• Demonstrated experience in providing clinical services and the management of children with neurological/mental health and developmental disorders.
• Training in Good Clinical Practice. Certification of online courses such as TRREE and NIH is highly recommended;
• Able to work extra hours when needed and with minimal supervision;
• Able to work with vulnerable populations such as those with neurological or mental health disorders;
• High levels of integrity and confidentiality; and
• Teamwork with the ability to work with diverse teams.
