Centres for Health and Education Programmes (CHEPs) is a registered Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Kenya.
CHEPs’ envisions the underprivileged across Kenya empowered with equal access to quality health and education services, improved agriculture and environment for a dignified lifestyle.
CHEPs’ mission is to empower the underprivileged individuals and communities of Kenya, while instilling hope and dignity, by providing sustainable and quality health, education, agriculture, environment conservation, development and humanitarian projects through local initiatives, resources, and involvement of local volunteers willing to serve the community.
Purpose of the Post:
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the senior management officer of the organisation. The CEO serves as the leader and maintains an effective and cohesive team for the organisation; sets the tone for the organisation by exemplifying consistent values of high ethical standards and fairness; leads the organisation in defining its vision; and bears the chief responsibility in ensuring the organisation meets its strategic goals. The CEO works with and is accountable to the Executive Board.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chief Executive Officer shall:
• Envision, manage and promote the strategic direction of CHEPs policies and plans
• Lead and manage the CHEPs staff in conjunction with the Board
• Regularly report progress to the Board and to advise the Board on any matter which could have a substantial impact on the work of the organisation
• Recommend to the Board strategic directions for the organisation’s activities and, when approved by the Board, consistently strive to achieve the corresponding strategic goals and objectives
• Direct and monitor the activities of the organisation with appropriate documentation and reporting
• Develop and implement operational policies and guidelines
• Develop and recommend the overall organisational structure to the Board ensuring that personnel and systems are in place so that the day-to-day affairs of the organisation are appropriately managed
• Maintains a positive work climate that is conducive to attracting, retaining and motivating a diverse group of top quality employees at all levels
• Manage and oversee the required interfaces between the organisation and stakeholders
• Ensures that appropriate personnel and systems are in place for the integrity and adequacy of the organisation’s internal control, disclosure control and management information systems
• Foster an organisational culture that promotes ethical practices, encourages individual integrity, and fulfills social responsibility
• Personnel management including hiring, maintaining, capacity building, separation, performance appraisal
• Fundraising, funds management, reporting
• Legal issues and reporting related to the organisation’s work and responsibilities
• Other tasks required of this key lead post to achieve the aims of the organization
QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced degree in business management, social policy, public health, education or similar fields.
• At least 10 years’ experience in senior positions with NGOs, local and international organisations in areas of health, nutrition, education, environment, humanitarian response.
• Demonstrated experience in organizational and team leadership, strategic management, leading change, motivating, commitment to results, shows high level of integrity and ability to deal effectively with demanding situations, design and implement interventions.
• Excellent communication skills, fundraising, interaction with donors, partners and stakeholders are necessary.
• Skilled in designing and conducting training, supportive supervision/mentorship and monitoring of programmes.
