About the Job:
The Danish Embassy is part of the Danish Foreign service. The Embassy covers Kenya and Somalia as well as Eritrea, Seychelles, and Malawi. The Embassy is an ambitious, high-paced and dynamic workplace with approximately 60 employees, 20 of whom are posted from Denmark. The Embassy has a flat management structure.
The Danish Embassy in Nairobi is seeking to recruit a Chef for the Danish Ambassador’s Residence.
The main tasks will be:
• Organize and prepare breakfasts, lunches, dinners and receptions for formal and informal events at the residence and occasionally at the Danish Chancellery
• Assist at events at the other Danish Ambassador’s residence
• Create menu items, recipes and develop international foods/dishes
• Prepare and cook high quality dishes
• Ensure food quality and excellent standards are maintained for all dishes created
• Ensure that food products, presentation and plating are of the highest quality and are prepared to serve in a timely manner – including for VIPs.
• Managing kitchen stocks by determining food inventory needs, stocking and ordering including on-line
• Ensure proper overview of expenses and prepare budgets for different kinds of events
• Supervising, motivating and working closely with other Chefs of all levels
• Being responsible for food hygiene practices
• Being updated on culinary trends – local and international
• Ensuring the kitchen meets all regulations including sanitary and food safety guidelines
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

Required qualifications
• 5-10 years professional Chef experience
• Have solid knowledge of local and international cuisine
• Have good knowledge of wines
• Have good knowledge in baking including bread and cakes
• Ability to prepare for conferences for up to 50 pax
• Flexible and ready for short-notice events
• Relevant education certificates
• Competent level of English spoken and written
• Valid driving licence
• Responsible, flexible and loyal
• High level of integrity
• Ability to work independently and outside working hours if need arises
• Great interpersonal, inter-cultural skills and team player abilities
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure
• Experience working in a diplomatic or international organization is not a requirement, but will be considered an added advantage

Employment conditions
• Permanent, full time employment on a local contract based on the relevant legally binding labour market rules of Kenya and Embassy policy/staff rules
• Entitlement to 25 working days of paid holiday per full calendar year
• Salary will reflect qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results
• As part of your salary you will be covered by a workplace pension scheme
• Reasonable coverage of sickness expenses for staff and dependant family members
