Job Purpose
The Africa Region IT and Digitalization team has the responsibility, in close collaboration with the Information Technology & Digitalization Department in Geneva and the Global Service Centre to deliver and support Information and Communication Technologies to the Federation offices in the Africa Region.
In addition to the above overall purpose, the function of the position of Temporary IT Assistant (office support) is specifically for the provision of efficient IT and telecommunication support on a day-to-day basis to users based both at the Regional & Nairobi County Cluster office.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Operate an IT helpdesk for rendering prompt, professional and friendly assistance to users who report different ICT incidences and problems.
• Provide first level hardware diagnosis and co-ordinate the operational aspects of hardware maintenance and servicing of computer equipment.
• Install, maintain, and upgrade computer equipment, software and peripherals in accordance with Federations standards. This task includes ensuring that all computer software and antivirus applications are up to date.
• Assist in development of necessary in-house capacities for the efficient use of IT and telecommunication resources.
• Provide technical support to workshops and meetings both on site and off-site including preparation, installation, and operation of equipment for virtual meetings.
• Update the inventory for all information Technology equipment at the Regional office and provide regular updates the Senior Regional IT officer.
• Provide end – user support for web based Federation systems including those for Finance, Reporting, econtract, e-travel etc.
• Work with the Service providers (Administration Assistant) to ensure to the extent possible, uninterrupted power supply to the computer architecture at the regional office, and to ensure uninterrupted internet connectivity.
• Install necessary communication tools on mobile devices before handover to end users
• Provide backstopping to the Regional IT colleagues as may be required from time to time.
Education
• Diploma in Information Technology. Required
• University degree in computer Science, or equivalent plus Microsoft MCSE and / or Cisco CCNA Certification. Preferred
• Microsoft MCSE or Cisco CCNA qualification. Preferred
• Technical qualification in IT or related discipline. Required
Experience
• 1-year minimum of work in computer systems (LAN, WAN TCP/IP connectivity, E-mail, application and user support domains) . Required
• 3 months’ minimum of work in radio communication technologies (VHF, HF, PACTOR, etc..) and satellites (INMARSAT etc), including practice in electronic repair. Preferred
• Experience with ITIL processes. Preferred
• Experience of working for the Red Cross/Red Crescent. Preferred
• Experience in providing training and facilitating workshop. Preferred
• Experience in inventory and stock management Zone. Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Language
• Excellent computer skills (Windows10, Windows Server, Etc.) Technical Skills computer hardware maintenance & repair. Required
• Skills in wireless technologies, including HF and VHF radio. Preferred
• Fluent in English. Required
