Accounts Officer

Our mission is to promote and protect abroad the values, interests and economic well-being of Ireland and its people. We do this under the political direction of our Ministers, through our staff at home and through our Embassy network abroad.
The Embassy is seeking to recruit a resourceful, proactive and flexible individual, ideally with previous experience in a similar environment to fill the position of Accounts Officer in the Embassy. This key support role will uphold and ensure best practice in financial oversight applying the Department’s policies and guidelines as appropriate. The Accounts Officer will join a high-paced team and provide timely support across the Embassy’s priority areas.
Role
• Preparation of monthly Embassy accounts and coordination of accounts review processes with team leads;
• Accounts system administration in consultation with diplomatic staff;
• Payment of Embassy invoices and liaison with service providers;
• Review and report on operational budgets and expenditure, ensuring value for money and compliance with appropriate procedures and regulations. Take responsibility for procurement matters, including tendering and reviewing contracts where appropriate.
• Liaison with service providers for Ambassador’s residence, and Chancery as appropriate;
• Participate in annual Business Planning processes include budget development;
• Contribute tomaintenance of the Embassy’s contact databases; and
• Other duties as required from time to time and directed by the Ambassador and Senior Management Team as necessary.
Essential Requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:
• Candidates must have a degree, preferably in a discipline such as:
o Accounting/Finance/Business Administration/or similar
o Candidates must have previous professional experience of book-keeping and accounts administration.
o Accounting qualification.
• The candidate must demonstrate using work based examples of providing excellent interpersonal skills, being persuasive, working in a team but also dealing effectively with people in external organisations;
• The candidate must provide evidence of flexibility, efficiency and effectiveness showing strong organizational skills, attention to detail, able to work under pressure and to manage multiple tasks;
• The candidate should provide examples of being solutions-oriented, and committed to delivering results, including by adapting approaches if necessary;
• The candidate must demonstrate using examples, their working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) to a high standard;
• All applicants must have a permanent legal right to reside and work in Kenya.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
• The successful applicant will work alongside other local employees of the Embassy, and will report directly to the diplomatic staff in the Mission. Previous experience in a diplomatic mission is desirable, but not essential.
Terms and conditions of employment:
• The successful candidates will be hired on a fixed-term contractual basis and will be based at the Irish Embassy.
• Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with standard office hours from 8am to 4pm
• Annual Leave entitlement 21 days per annum.
• Private Pension Scheme.
• The salary for the position begins at KSH175,563 monthly /annual KSH2,106761, rising to KSH249,923 monthly/annual KSH2,999,081 paid locally on a monthly basis. Salaries are paid direct to a bank account, therefore, the successful candidate must have a bank account.

Selection Process:
• Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for two competency-based interviews may be undertaken based on the Essential/Key Requirements above. The second round interview will also include an accounts exam.
• It is planned that first round interviews will be held by video conference before the end of February. Second round interviews will be conducted in person along with the accounts exam.

Security Clearance for Local Staff
Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful, this information will be destroyed.
