JOB SUMMARY
This position will be pivotal in enhancing financial controls, managing donor fund reporting, identifying potential risks, and fostering transparency across all financial activities within the organization. He/She will oversee financial operations for multiple programs, including hospital services, schools, colleges, and community-based activities, all funded by various donors. In collaboration with departmental assistant accountants, the accountant will support the operations of other departments, ensuring compliance with financial policies, procedures, and donor regulations.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Management and Reporting
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.1
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
- Monitor and manage the organization’s financial performance against budgets.
- Develop and maintain robust financial control procedures.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making
Budget Management and Grant Administration
- Support the development and monitoring of organizational budgets, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and grant requirements.
- Manage grant budgets, ensuring compliance with donor regulations and reporting requirements.
- Track and report on grant expenditures, ensuring accurate allocation and utilization of funds.
- Collaborate with program managers to ensure effective budget management and financial reporting.
- Support in proposal development and budgets for different departments.
Team Leadership and Capacity Building
- Provide mentorship, and guidance to the department’s assistant accountants
- Coach and mentor non-finance staff on financial management best practices
- Promote a culture of financial accountability and transparency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
(The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training)
Level of Education/Academic Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance) from a recognized university.
Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPAK) qualification is mandatory.
Other Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and MS Office.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, and with multiple concurrent demands.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- A team player with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
Relevant Job Experience
- At least three and half (3.5) years of relevant experience as an accountant preferably in the non-profit sector.
