JOB DETAILS:
IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by Section 26 (5) of the Energy Act 2019 ["the Act"), the Cabinet Secretary for Energy declares vacancies in the position of Member of the Energy and Petroleum Tribunal and hereby invites application from suitably qualified persons for the position of Member of the Energy and Petroleum Tribunal The applications shall be to the Chairman, Energy and Petroleum Tribunal Selection Panel Pursuant to Section 26 (7) of the Act within fourteen (14) days of the publication of this notice The Energy and Petroleum Tribunal is established under the provisions of Section 25 of the Act for the purpose of hearing and determining disputes and appeals in accordance with the Act or any other written law Pursuant to Section 26 (2) of the Act, the Members of the Tribunal at the first meeting of the Tribunal shall elect a Vice-Chairperson.
DISQUALIFICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS A MEMBER OF THE ENERGY AND PETROLEUM TRIBUNAL: A person shall be disqualified for appointment as a Member of the Tribunal under Section 26 (1) (b) of the Act, if that person is in the employment of the Government, Nuclear Power and Energy Agency or the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
TERMS OF SERVICE; The members of the Tribunal shall hold office for a period of three years, but shall be eligible for re-appointment for one further term, pursuant to Section 26(18) of the Act..

Job Qualifications:
A person shall be qualified for appointment as a Member of the Tribunal under Section 26 (1) of the Act, if that person
• Is a citizen of Kenya
• Holds a degree in a relevant area from a University recognized in Kenya,
• Is a member in good standing of the relevant professional association
• Meets the requirement of leadership and integrity set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution
In addition to the above qualifications, the applicant should possess knowledge and experience in law, petroleum and energy pursuant to Section 26 (1) (b) of the Act,
NB: For applicants seeking to be elected as a Vice-Chairperson pursuant to Section 26 (2) of the Act, such applicant must quality to be a Judge of the High Court possessing at least five years' experience in energy and petroleum matters.
