Engineer (18 Positions)

Job Purpose/Summary
The job holder is answerable to the Senior Engineer in the respective Department and is responsible for supervision of road construction projects funded through the Government of Kenya Development Vote to provide access, mobility and connectivity within urban areas across the country.

Qualifications and Experience
For appointment to this position, the idealcandidate must:
• Have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in the public service or private sector;
• Have a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following: Records Management, Information Management, Information Sciences, Library Science, Knowledge Management or any other relevant and equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution;
• Be proficient in computer applications especially in Electronic Document Management System;
• Be a member of a relevant professional body;
• Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities

Duties under Planning and Design
• assisting in preparing road investment programs for road networks,
• assisting in preparing Public Private Partnership arrangements;
• assisting in preparing Materials testing and research programs,
• assisting in carrying out traffic surveys and management of traffic data,
• assisting in collecting and collating economic, environmental and social data for
• road investment programmes and strategies;
• assisting in preparing engineering design of road works and structures;
• assisting in preparing tender documentation for road works and structures;
• assisting in preparation of work plans;
• assisting in preparing records for road assets database;
• performing any other lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Duties Under Construction
• assisting in preparing short, medium- and long-term road works programmes;
• assisting in reviewing of engineering design for road works and structures;
• assisting in preparing and reviewing tender documentation for road works and structures,
• assisting in preparing procurement plans for road works and structures,
• assisting in supervision of contracts;
• assisting in undertaking road safety audits during road development; and
Road Asset and Corridor Management
• assisting in formulating and implementation of road asset management policies;
• assisting in undertaking annual road inventory and condition surveys;
• assisting in preparing engineering design of road maintenance works,
• assisting in compiling and analyzing annual road maintenance work programmes;
• assisting in preparing tender documentation for road works;
• assisting in supervision of maintenance contracts;
• undertaking public sensitization on protection of road reserves; and
• performing any other lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Duties Under Road Asset & Corridor Management
• assisting in implementation of road asset Management policies;
• assisting in undertaking annual road inventory and condition surveys;
• assisting in compilation and analysis annual road maintenance work programmes;
• assisting in implementation of road works emergency response programmes;
• assisting in preparation of tender documentation for road works;
• assisting in supervision of road maintenance contracts;
• assisting in road assets protection and surveillance;
• assisting in implementation and conformance of road management systems;
• assisting in conducting periodic reviews of the performance standards;
• assisting in ensuring road maintenance contracts are prepared and implemented in accordance with set standards and specifications;
• assisting in planning and implementation of roadside developments through institutional consultations and collaboration;
• assisting in undertaking public sensitization on protection of road reserves; and
• performing any other lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time.
