JOB DETAILS:
Carbon Technical Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare and manage the Annual Plan for submission of all Carbon documents. This shall be a clear well-defined plan showing which report will be prepared by whom, reviewed by when, and submitted on SharePoint and to the Carbon Operations Director and Carbon Consultant by when. This planner will be influenced by the expected date of issuance and Standard review booking dates and ensure collaboration and alignment between the Project Management team and technical team
• Take the lead in Drafting, Reviewing, or Refining clear Standard Operating Procedures and Quality control and Quality Assurance plans and strategies for All reporting and technical aspects of carbon processes, to be implemented by the Project Management teams and all support departments in BURN (Commercial Team, Business Intelligence department, Carbon Project Management team, and Carbon Technical Officers). In doing so, the manager will ensure that they are aware of all latest and recent updates to applicable standard requirements and methodologies.
• Training and capacity building to ensure compliance with carbon standard requirements from BURN, and make sure the carbon project Management team is following the requirements of the standards based on the SOPs developed
• Review, and draft where required, all Carbon documentation – e.g., but not limited to PoA-DD, Grouped Project Descriptions, VPA-DD, Monitoring reports, Local Stakeholder consultation reports, and all related Support documents, and submit them to the Carbon Consultant on time and in scope
• Provide adequate and robust research and guidance to BURN from credible sources on key information required by BURN for maximizing Emission reductions e.g., but not limited to Baseline Fuel Consumption in each Market BURN operates, Fraction of Non-renewable biomass, Baseline scenarios (including cooking patterns, cooking devices, etc.), etc.
• Develop robust record systems to ensure all carbon reports and their supporting documents are saved on BURN’s SharePoint and uploaded on the Sustaincert app on time and in the correct level of quality
• Upload all relevant carbon documents on the Carbon Standard Apps (e.g. VERRA registry, Sustaincert Registry, etc.) at the time of any review (e.g. Preliminary review, Design review, Performance review, Design change, etc.). In addition, they will be responsible for booking review dates and managing communication with the Project management team to ensure timelines in the shared Gantt charts reflect the timelines when the standards expect these documents.
• Calculation of Ex – Ante and Ex- post Emission reduction calculations across all carbon standards (VERRA, TPDDTEC) and technologies and submit the same to the Carbon Consultant
• Coordinate and manage weekly check-ins and one on one sessions with Carbon Technical Officers, Senior carbon Manager, and all other relevant departments in BURN. In addition, prepare Monthly reports on the performance of Set Targets against the Performance of to BURN management team
• Lead and coordinate all reviews from BURN to either VVBs and/or the Standards in each stage of Project reviews e.g., Preliminary review in GS or Listing in VERRA. The Carbon Technical Manager ensures that all feedback is provided on time and in scope in conjunction with the Carbon Consultant
• Create, review or refine All data collection questionnaires in line with the standard requirements and in a way to maximize opportunities for Carbon Credit Generation
• Identify and Manage the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats that face BURN’s projects from Standards or Markets where BURN operates and come up with strategic plans to de-risk any aspects that would affect the issuance of credits on time, on the scope and budget
• Manage, coordinate, and take lead in any Design changes to existing POAs
• Manage Ad hoc communications with Standards (e.g., VERRA/GS) for topics such as but not limited to technical changes to methodology rules, deviation requests, clarification requests, and relationship building with the standards (e.g., finance, technical reviewers, etc.) VBS as needed
• Managing the BURN Registry Accounts, ensuring projects are uploaded on time, Registry fees are paid on time, and all bookings are done on time, among other needs
• Carrying out specific one-off special carbon assignments falling outside the scope of existing JD

Skills and Experience:
Essential
• 6+ Years’ experience in Carbon Standards Project Document preparation in Gold Standard and/or VERRA (CDM experience is desired)
• 6+ Years’ experience in Emission reductions calculations in Gold Standard, CDM, and VERRA cookstove projects based on the cookstove methodologies in these standards
• 6+ years of experience in Managing Carbon Audits and responding to Standard (VERRA/CDM/GS) comments
• Proven track record in Quality control and Quality Assurance experience in carbon Projects
• Experience in building and Managing Teams
• Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English language

Desired
• Network base with VVBs, Carbon Consultants, Representatives from Carbon Standards like VERRA, GS, and CDM, and any other Key stakeholders in the Global carbon Markets
• Certification in Microsoft Programmes – MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
• Excellent graphical presentation and reporting skills.
• Enthusiastic, motivated, and a desire to ‘Get things done
• Proven track record demonstrating excellent time management skills
