Senior Programme Officer-Coffee-Donuts Programme

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Performance Areas

Project Management

  • Establish a business case for each project, supported by budget information and income projections
  • Manage the implementation of projects to develop the capacity of producer organizations
  • Monitor operational activities and effectiveness of results and milestones
  • Compile monthly updates and quarterly reports using FTA and project templates
  • Support the development of project proposals

Technical Advisory

Provide thematic training and technical advisory support training to producer organisations and Fairtrade Premium Committees:

  • Project and financial management
  • Gender main streaming
  • Hired Labour Standards
  • Fairtrade Premium management
  • Product Certification Cycle

Organizational Strengthening

  • Initiate and maintain relationships with local communities, public and government institutions, and educational institutions among other stakeholders
  • Understand producer needs and concerns, and advocate for relevant policies to enhance FTA’s work with the local opinion leaders and decision-makers.
  • Ensure awareness of the local trends, perceptions and players in the local community.
  • Advise on how to manage risk and optimise the opportunities
  • Influence localised policies and perceptions in favour of FTA though the support of the Programme Manager.
  • Support the identification of opportunities for programmes and projects development
  • Support and provide advice to producer groups to enable access to trade and marketing opportunities
  • Represent FTA in country and field events
  • Support the needs and situational assessment of producer organizations and propose recommendations to best support Small Producer Organizations
  • Support in provision of technical assistance to members in the development of business strategic plans, marketing plans related to business development and growth requirements

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Development Studies, Agriculture, or related field
  • A diploma in projects management is an added advantage

Experience and Knowledge

  • A minimum of 3 years of project management experience in a similar environment
  • Experience in delivering training to a range of audiences
  • Experience in business development within sustainable supply chains
  • Knowledge and understanding of Fairtrade standards
  • Thematic knowledge and expertise in FTA’s priority areas

Skills

  • Good command of spoken and written English.

Terms of Reference for Provision Project Management Services

SCOPE OF WORK

Working closely with the Fairtrade Working Group, the Project Manager will:

Before the Events

  • Master Plan/Run of Show: design the master plan detailing the virtual and physical aspects for each session and including contingency plans;
  • Judging panel: Guide in formation and nomination of judging panels, guidelines etc.
  • Communication Packs: Support development of info packs for all participants; support information sharing for all official and non-official events; guide development of sponsorship kit, logistics notes, guest packages etc.
  • Service providers: Support identification and engagement with relevant service providers;
  • Working Group Support: Support the steering committee monitor progress of the internal working committees handling the various aspects of all activities.
  • Events Set-Up: support the design and plan all the virtual and physical aspects of all the events as well as design and set up the official meeting venue, side meeting spaces, field trips, displays etc;
  • Social media kit: support the creation of a social media kit and content calendar jointly with the Communication team:
  • Safety and Health: Develop a health and safety contingency plan;
  • Help Desk: Act as a “help desk”- central point of contact for any logistic questions before and during the event.
  • Support travel booking arrangements: Support with flight bookings, visa requirements and travel/health advice for all participants attending in person; support with hotel booking, arrival and airport transfers; support spontaneous re-arrangements of travel plans (extension of hotel / re-booking of flights), follow up with invoicing;

During the Events

Working with the steering committee

  • Events management: Oversee timely events execution. Coordinate the flow of events as per the program bearing in mind different time zones.
  • Events communication: Support the production of real-time written and branded short video snippets and photo journals for airing on social media throughout the key events.
  • IT support: support the Tech Committee to coordinate the IT logistics for the event.
  • Third-party management: Supervise all suppliers and contractors to deliver all items as per the agreed schedule.

After the Events

  • Tear down; work with the Clients Account Manager for any software to ensure that all data and content is taken down from the software databases after the event;
  • Follow up with all participants and suppliers to ensure payments are made.
  • Bring all events communications and payments to a close.
  • Events and forum reporting
  • Support with post-event communication as desired.

CONSULTANCY PERIOD

The contract period is 9 months from November 2022 – July 2023.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The Project Manager must demonstrate a strong background, training, and experience in the planning and management of global stakeholder forums.

 

Youth Coordinator

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Performance Areas

Capacity Development

  • Facilitate knowledge building and mainstreaming of youth aspects among FTA staff members and its producer members.
  • Develop tools and approaches towards strengthening FTA’s capacity to support its producer members in promoting youth empowerment, through Fairtrade and other social, political and economic approaches
  • Establish, update and maintain youth-related policies and youth strategy for FTA, and lead FTA’s contribution towards the Fairtrade system’s policies and strategies for youth
  • Support producers in the design, development and implementation of relevant policies

Portfolio Management

  • Work with the regions to administer and deliver programs for youth among producers.
  • Utilise as well as review to update, existing portfolio guidelines such as the terms of reference for Fairtrade Africa Premium Alumni Association (FAPAA), and FTA Continental Youth Association, in a way that translates FTA’s priorities into interventions.
  • Effectively apply Results Based Management tools, establish management targets, monitor achievement of results, ensure quality control and learning, and coordinate implementation.
  • Conduct youth assessments in each region, so as to establish effectiveness of interventions and also to identify gaps; constantly monitor the environment to ensure timely readjustment of interventions.
  • Provide regular reports on activities, outputs and outcomes to different audiences.
  • Proactively feed into unit planning and manage relevant budget lines in line with financial management procedures and requirements

Mainstreaming youth into Fairtrade Africa's approach to development

  • Work closely with FTA regional networks as well as with systemwide Fairtrade units such as Workers’ Rights, Social Compliance, FLOCERT, etc. in order to assimilate youth components into policies, standards, advocacy, producer support, certification/auditing practices, communications, marketing and business engagement. Advice on possible areas for support or adjustments in existing operations.
  • Conduct outreach to recruit youth for FTA’s youth programmes.
  • Identify good (best) practices and disseminate findings through guidelines and manuals especially among member producers
  • Lead in organizing relevant events, attend seminars or conferences as required.

Resource Mobilisation

  • Work closely with the Fundraising unit to enable the successful design of youth-related projects and programmes for which external funding is required.
  • Develop annual resource mobilization targets for youth strategic plan
  • Provide support in design and development of regional youth/programme concepts and proposals
  • Ensure high quality and timely submission of proposals and concept notes

Creation and Management of Strategic Partnerships

  • Map and develop partnerships with local as well as global partners that have context-specific expertise on youth empowerment, in line with the FTA Partnership Approach.
  • Coordinate partnerships, ensuring efficient and transparent communication and exchange with partners.
  • Perform other duties and tasks that are consistent with the skills and expertise as needed.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, International Development or related field

Experience and Knowledge

  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience that involved the engagement of youth
  • Experience in delivering training, particularly to the youth
  • Knowledge of youth-related best practices in the agricultural sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of Fairtrade practices, and interest in the Fairtrade system

Skills

  • Ability to communicate ideas in a manner conducive to their practical application and comfortable working as part of a team, to add value to collective results
  • Able to constructively challenge and influence others to affect change where needed
  • Well-developed literacy skills and ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely, orally and in writing

Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence Advisor (Re-advertisement)

Key Performance Areas
Project Management

  • Develop the participatory HREDD dialogue concept together with Fairtrade’s Centre of Excellence for HREDD,
  • Write the plan and budget for the project,
  • Coordinate the project implementation,
  • Support rightsholder-driven identification and assessment of salient human rights and environmental issues and their root causes in the participating countries and sectors,
  • Develop dialogue formats and facilitation methods, tensure meaningful discussions between the stakeholders,
  • Arrange trainings, organize workshops and dialogue events,
  • Update the HREDD dialogue concept based on participants’ feedback and lessons learned,
  • Monitor the project, supported by DONUTS programme MEL manager,
  • Write reports (quarterly and annually).
  • Advise other projects under DONUTS programme on human rights issues
  • Support and provide advice for these projects in the human rights’ issues such as risk identification and mitigation
  • Provide training for the programme team on issues such as human rights, workers’ rights and HREDD. 
  • Coordinate and contribute tFairtrade Africa’s participation in Fairtradewide HREDD work
  • In collaboration with other FTA staff, contribute tFairtrade-wide HREDD workstreams: System development, Business services, Advocacy and Capacity building. This includes concrete collaboration with Fairtrade colleagues from around the world.
  • Coordinate FTA’s participation in Fairtrade-wide work on human rights and environmental risk assessment, which includes
  • expert input trisk assessment plans
  • liaison with Heads of Regions, Product managers, and Fairtrade Centre of Excellence on HREDD
  • support for workshops and surveys with producers
  • Support and provide advice for HREDD related capacity development work
  • Provide training for FTA staff on human rights and HREDD. 

Other tasks

  • Submit necessary monitoring and reports as per required timelines
  • Develop own expertise

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree human rights related field (i.e. human rights, international development, sustainability, law, etc.)

Experience and Knowledge 

  • 5 years’ experience working on ne or more human rights issues, such as child labor, forced labor, workers' rights, living income, living wage, gender equity, youth inclusion, indigenous persons’ rights, freedom of association etc.
  • Demonstrable experience in project management.
  • Experience in supporting ethical and sustainable supply chains.
  • Experience in developing and fostering external organizational relationships.
  • Experience working in multi-cultural environments.
  • Knowledge of sustainable business practices.
  • Knowledge of Fairtrade standards and HREDD will be an advantage.
