JOB DETAILS:
• The Legal assistant is responsible for providing counsel to ICEA LION Trust Company clients seeking to determine specific distribution of their estate including drafting of wills, trusts and other related documents. He/she is also responsible for providing support to the Estate Planner including follow up on registration of trusts, drafting routine documents for trust registration and administration of the private trusts as well as supporting in other legal aspects of the company.
Key Responsibilities: • Sets up various Estate Planning structures according to client needs.
• Complete research for the Estate Planner and prepare documents, draft correspondence, summarize records and findings and write up briefs, petitions and other legal documents.
• Administratively support and attend Government offices including trusts, lands and documents registries.
• Contacts various county and national government agencies to gather information.
• Type up and file basic legal documents and correspondence under the guidance of the Estate Planner.
• Conduct investigations and documentary research.
• Handle correspondences both in writing and orally with external Advocates, Third party Advocates.
• Receive legal documents and attend to legal mails as may be assigned from time to time.
• Peruse lands/trust registry files as directed by the Estate Planner from time to time.
• Scrutinize legal documents before circulation to Directors.
• Review Estate instructions and ensure subsequent actions are in line with all mandate.
• Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements under Estate Planning.
• Attend both high- and low-level client meetings and coordinates maintenance of records of decisions and transactions.
• Organize and co-ordinate meetings with clients with all relevant parties.
• Ensure all statutory, regulatory and internal reporting requirements and deadlines are met.
• Communicates with clients in person and via mail, email and telephone to commence an engagement and to keep matters moving forward on a timely basis.
• Preparing, reviewing and updating legal documents, operations & training manuals.
Occasional Duties: • Systems Development – making sure the new products are brought on to the system.
• Participating in internal ad-hoc committees.
• Involved in the automation of business functions.
Academic and Professional Qualifications and Skills: • LL.B Degree
• Diploma Kenya School of Law
• Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
• Additional training/qualifications in Estate Planning an added advantage.
• Well versed in Succession Law and Practice.
• Strong teamwork and solid organization skills
• Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
• Creative problem-solving, critical thinking, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to make presentations to various groups of people.
• Confident and highly articulate.
• Leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to deal with a wide variety of people and professionals
Experience: • At least three (3) years
Work Hours: 8 Experience in Months: 36
Level of Education: Postgraduate Degree
