Background:
• Literature describing adaptation practices regarding livestock farming in detail is rare. Most research focuses on describing the impacts of climate change and then allocates varying farming practices as adaptation practice, presuming local land users adopted these as a linear response to climate change. To address these misconceptions, the adaptation team is conducting a systematic literature review to compare different adaptation practices and the underlying drivers in Kenya’s livestock systems. The review will enhance the understanding of adaptation responses and their effectiveness in reducing climate change risks.
Scope of Work:
The initial screening for the systematic literature review (adapted from the Cochrane system) has been completed in Covidence. The assignment will entail the following:
• Extraction of selected publications in Covidence (75 publications pre-screened)
• Full text review and data extraction of included publications in response to our research questions (Covidence and NVIVO)
• Coordinating team meetings and co-writing with other co-authors
• Writing up of results for a joint publication with the rest of the team
• Producing a final draft for a publication to be submitted in cooperation with the team
Essential skills and qualifications
• Masters degree, preferably in social sciences or humanities or interdisciplinary degree
• Experience in systematic literature review, NVIVO, understanding of adaptation to climate change, understands Kenyan context
• Background in social sciences with a sound understanding of adaptation to climate change and possibly livestock sciences in Kenya
• Familiarity with systematic literature review (Cochrane method)
• Proficiency in using NVIVO qualitative data analysis software
• Proficiency in English in speaking and writing
• Excellent team communication skills
• Proven record of academic writing (peer reviewed publications, not reports and other grey literature)
